Material Planning Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Material Planning Engineer responsible for preparing, validating, and monitoring material requirements for electrical equipment manufacturing projects.

The successful candidate will review approved quotations, technical specifications, shop drawings, and bills of materials to ensure that all required components are accurately identified, quantified, and requested before production.

The position will coordinate with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Warehouse to ensure timely material availability and minimize production delays, excess inventory, and material wastage.

Key responsibilities

• Material requirement planning and PRS preparation
  
  

Review approved quotations, project specifications, and shop drawings.

Prepare detailed material requirements for LVSG, panelboards, switchgear, transformers, and busduct projects.

Identify material descriptions, specifications, ratings, dimensions, quantities, and required delivery dates.

Prepare accurate Purchase Requisition Sheets for project materials.

Validate material quantities against the approved Bill of Materials (BOM) and drawings.Identify discrepancies between quoted materials and actual engineering requirements.

Coordinate technical clarifications with Engineering before issuing material requests.

• Inventory verification and material allocation
  
  

Coordinate with Warehouse to verify available stocks before preparing PRS.

Identify materials already allocated to other projects.

Determine the actual quantity required for purchasing after deducting available, unallocated inventory.

Monitor critical materials and long-lead-time components.

Recommend the use of available inventory when technically acceptable and approved.

• Production material planning
  
  

Coordinate with PPC regarding project priorities and production schedules.

Establish material requirement dates based on planned production activities.

Identify potential material shortages before production begins.

Monitor material availability for upcoming production projects.

Coordinate material readiness with Production and Warehouse.

• Material monitoring and coordination
  
  

Maintain a material requirement and PRS monitoring report.

Track outstanding requisitions and coordinate with Purchasing regarding expected delivery dates.

Monitor shortages, delayed deliveries, and incomplete material requirements.

Report material-related risks that may affect production deadlines.

Update material requirements when approved engineering revisions occur.

• Cost control and material optimization
  
  

Compare material requirements against approved project quotations and estimated quantities.

Identify excessive material requests, duplicate requisitions, and unnecessary purchases.

Coordinate with Engineering regarding opportunities for material standardization and optimization.

Monitor material quantity variances between estimated and actual project requirements.

Prepare material consumption and variance reports for management review.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

At least 1–3 years of experience in material planning, BOM preparation, production planning, or electrical equipment manufacturing is preferred.

Ability to interpret electrical shop drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.

Familiarity with electrical components such as ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, busbars, CTs, meters, and panelboard accessories.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and material monitoring systems.

Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.

Experience with ERP or inventory management systems is an advantage.
