We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mason to join our construction team to be based in Diego Garcia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of masonry tasks including laying bricks, concrete blocks, and stone to construct or repair walls, structures, and surfaces. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently on construction sites under varying conditions.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepares surfaces prior to beginning work.
- Fabricates, alters, repairs, and maintains walls, sidewalks, street curbs, floors, bathroom showers, sink counters, partitions, manholes, and other related structures or surfaces.
- Lays blocks or bricks following blueprints, plans, or drawings.
- Determines work requirements and sequence of masonry/tile assignments through review of work orders, plans, or drawings.
- Lays out work using chalk lines, plumb bobs, tapes, squares, and levels.
- Mixes cement using hoes, cement-mixing equipment, and/or hand tools.
- Cuts or breaks bricks and concrete using hammers, powered abrasive saws, paving breakers, drills, and/or hand tools.
- Operates equipment, such as forklift, dump truck, and flatbed.
- Estimates materials and labour.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years masonry or bricklaying experience
- Completion of a three year federally approved technical training program in masonry or bricklaying
- Must possess thorough understanding of the various materials and tools and the ability make sound judgements based on the structural requirements of the building.
- Ensure highest safety measures at all times.
- Ability to perform needs-based analysis and complete projects following instructions and according to requirement.
- Willingness to learn and update skills to keep up with developments
