Marine Biology Senior Specialist

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES

The Science and Technology Team within NEOM is searching or a dynamic and innovative marine scientist

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced career professional with highly developed technical knowledge, organizational and management skills. The NEOM giga-project aims to be the most environmentally conscious and sustainable development project on the planet.

The Marine Biology Senior Specialist should have a track record of commercial marine biology projects, demonstrate consistency in the level of work with an extensive technical background in marine biology.

The role requires:

• Developing and drafting requests for proposals for ecological surveys relating to fauna and flora within the NEOM marine area.
• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to meet NEOM goals and objectives while maintaining compliance with the NEOM Environment Department.
• Preparing and developing ecological technical guidelines for surveys to be conducted within the NEOM area.
• Working closely with other departments to develop appropriate ecological planning and mitigation strategies.
• Providing guidance and oversight for the preparation and collection of data to support the development of ecological baseline reports.
• Providing strategic ecological guidance to consultants, other technical staff in the department, and contractors.
• Establishing a proper channel of coordination and communication between the team to track the workflow and meet all the deadlines.
• Reviewing ecological surveys and studies conducted by others.
• Leading, managing and participating in marine ecology surveys in accordance with NEOM Environment standards and guidelines and best industry practice (which will include diving and/or snorkeling visits to multiple sites within the Neom Red Sea).

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The Marine Biology Senior Specialist demonstrates project management skills, a growing reputation as a subject matter expert, a good problem solver with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The role will require:

Bachelor's degree in marine biology or related sciences Master's degree is preferred.

Minimum of 5 years experience across marine biology.

Experience working as a marine scientist within the development sector.

Experience with IFC PS is preferred.

Knowledge of coral reef ecosystems

Strong attitude towards being a team-player.

Strong organizational skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work under tight timelines

The ability to conduct and supervise fieldwork.

Proficient fluency in English is essential, Arabic is a plus.

Experience in the GCC is preferred and preferably experience in KSA

Qualifications

As a minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences or similar
