Job Description

Your Mission

As the Managing Editor, your mission is to build, lead, and strengthen the company's editorial function across all brands. You will ensure that all content meets strong standards for quality, search performance, user value, brand consistency, and business impact.

You will own the editorial strategy, content operations, publishing standards, and quality control systems that support organic growth, AI search visibility, and the company's broader business goals.

This role is focused on editorial leadership and oversight. You will guide editors, writers, SEO writers, and freelancers by setting clear direction, improving editorial processes, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring that content across all brands is strategic, useful, accurate, and aligned with growth priorities.

You will work closely with SEO, Technical SEO, Product, and Marketing teams to ensure content supports rankings, user experience, brand authority, conversions, and long-term business growth.

What You'll Do

1. Content Strategy & Editorial Leadership

  • Lead the overall content strategy across blogs, landing pages, product pages, comparison pages, guides, templates, FAQs, case studies, and other website content.
  • Build content plans based on SEO opportunities, business goals, competitor gaps, customer pain points, search intent, and AI search visibility.
  • Create weekly, monthly, and quarterly content calendars and priorities.
  • Manage and guide editors, content writers, SEO writers, and freelancers when needed.
  • Prioritize content based on traffic potential, ranking difficulty, conversion value, topical authority, and business impact.
  • Ensure every content piece has a clear purpose, whether for ranking, education, conversion, authority building, or AI citation potential.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align content priorities with broader business and growth objectives.

2. SEO Content Planning & Search Intent

  • Conduct keyword research for TOFU, MOFU, and BOFU content opportunities.
  • Identify high-value keywords, long-tail keywords, question-based queries, comparison terms, and commercial-intent topics.
  • Understand search intent and translate it into effective content structures and page goals.
  • Analyze why competitors rank and identify what is missing from the company's content.
  • Create keyword maps, content clusters, and content plans that strengthen topical authority.
  • Prevent keyword cannibalization by clearly defining the role and purpose of each page.

3. Content Optimization, On-Page SEO & EEAT

  • Oversee the optimization of titles, meta descriptions, headings, FAQs, internal links, CTAs, image alt text, and overall content structure.
  • Improve existing content through updates, expansions, better examples, stronger EEAT signals, and stronger internal linking.
  • Ensure content is easy to scan, well-organized, useful, and aligned with both user needs and search performance.
  • Guide the team in adding expert insights, original examples, data, case studies, screenshots, quotes, product knowledge, and real-world use cases where relevant.
  • Ensure all content is factual, helpful, trustworthy, and not generic or shallow.
  • Work with SEO and technical teams to ensure schema, page structure, and internal linking support content performance.
  • Improve content so it can compete effectively in featured snippets, People Also Ask, answer boxes, and AI-generated summaries.

4. GEO, AEO & AI Content Readiness

  • Build content strategies designed to improve visibility in AI-generated answers and answer engines.
  • Optimize content for Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Bing Copilot, Claude, and other AI-driven search experiences.
  • Structure content so AI systems can easily understand, extract, and cite it.
  • Create standards for clear definitions, direct answers, factual summaries, comparison tables, FAQs, step-by-step guides, and expert explanations.
  • Build content that directly answers important customer questions and supports natural language search behavior.
  • Identify which types of content and sources are being cited by AI tools in the company's niche.
  • Work with SEO and PR teams to improve brand mentions, authority, and third-party credibility that support AI visibility.

5. Editorial Management & Content Quality Control

  • Provide editorial oversight across all brands to ensure strong quality, structure, clarity, tone, SEO value, and brand consistency.
  • Review high-priority or complex content when needed, but not as the primary editor for every article.
  • Guide editors and writers in improving content depth, relevance, readability, usefulness, and search alignment.
  • Create content briefs that include target keywords, search intent, outlines, internal links, FAQs, examples, references, and conversion goals.
  • Ensure every article has a strong introduction, logical flow, useful examples, and clear takeaways.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice across all content.
  • Build editorial checklists, review standards, and quality control processes that improve consistency and output quality.
  • Ensure content is not generic, thin, repetitive, or written only for keywords.
  • Resolve complex editorial issues and provide direction when content needs major improvement.

6. AI Content Workflow & Process Improvement

  • Use AI tools responsibly to improve research, outlines, ideation, briefs, editing, and content optimization.
  • Create processes for using AI without reducing originality, factual accuracy, brand quality, or editorial standards.
  • Review AI-assisted or AI-generated drafts for accuracy, tone, structure, SEO quality, and originality when needed.
  • Train writers and editors on how to use AI as a support tool rather than a replacement for expert thinking.
  • Build workflows that combine human expertise, SEO data, and AI efficiency in a practical and responsible way.

7. Content Performance & Reporting

  • Track content performance using Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Ahrefs, Semrush, Looker Studio, and other relevant tools.
  • Analyze clicks, impressions, CTR, rankings, conversions, engagement, indexed pages, content decay, and other content performance signals.
  • Identify which pages need updates, rewrites, consolidation, pruning, or stronger internal linking.
  • Create reports that explain what content is working, what is declining, and what actions should be taken next.
  • Monitor competitor content and identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Measure the impact of content updates, refreshes, and new content launches.
  • Track visibility in AI search platforms where possible.

8. Team Management & Workflow Organization

  • Lead the editorial team with clear structure, priorities, deadlines, and quality expectations.
  • Assign or oversee work distribution based on writer strengths, business priorities, and SEO opportunities.
  • Coach and develop editors and writers
  • Train the team in SEO writing, AI search optimization, research quality, product understanding, and editorial standards.
  • Keep content projects organized in tools such as Trello, Jira, Notion, or similar platforms.
  • Review team output and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Build repeatable systems for content briefing, writing, editing, publishing, updating, and reporting.
  • Create a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across the editorial team.

What You'll Bring:

  • 7+  of experience in content marketing, SEO content, editorial leadership, or content strategy.
  • Proven experience leading writers, editors, or content teams.
  • Strong understanding of SEO, keyword research, search intent, on-page optimization, internal linking, and content structure.
  • Experience creating content that ranks on Google and drives business results.
  • Experience editing or improving long-form SEO content.
  • Strong understanding of AI search, GEO, AEO, AI Overviews, and answer engines.
  • Experience using SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog, or similar tools.
  • Experience building content calendars, content briefs, editorial guidelines, and reporting systems.
  • Strong command of written English.
  • Strong writing, editing, analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to give clear feedback, manage multiple content projects, and use data to make content decisions.
  • Strong understanding of how content supports rankings, traffic, authority, conversions, and AI visibility.
  • Experience working with SaaS, technology, B2B, or digital products is preferred.
