Job Description

The Managing Director will provide overall leadership for the company's Life and Non-Life insurance businesses, with full accountability for business performance, profitability, growth, customer experience, and organizational effectiveness. The role will set the strategic direction of the organization while ensuring disciplined execution across commercial, underwriting, operations, claims, finance, and support functions.

The position will lead the development and execution of strategies that strengthen the company's market position, expand distribution and customer reach, improve portfolio quality, and build a sustainable and profitable insurance business.

Key Responsibilities

Business Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the company's overall business strategy and long-term growth agenda across Life and Non-Life insurance.
  • Translate corporate objectives into clear business priorities, targets, and operating plans.
  • Lead the organization in identifying new growth opportunities, market segments, products, and distribution channels.
  • Ensure alignment between commercial objectives, risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and long-term profitability.
  • Act as the primary leader and representative of the organization with key stakeholders, partners, regulators, and industry organizations.

P&L and Financial Management

  • Hold overall accountability for revenue, profitability, operating expenses, cash flow, and financial performance.
  • Establish and monitor business targets, budgets, forecasts, and performance indicators.
  • Drive profitable growth while maintaining appropriate underwriting discipline and portfolio quality.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency, productivity, and operational scalability.
  • Work closely with Finance and business leaders to ensure sound financial planning and resource allocation.

Commercial & Distribution

  • Develop strategies to grow premium income, customer acquisition, retention, and market share across both Life and Non-Life businesses.
  • Strengthen distribution through agents, brokers, bancassurance, corporate accounts, partnerships, digital channels, and other relevant platforms.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major clients, distribution partners, and strategic accounts.
  • Ensure that sales strategies are aligned with customer needs, product economics, and the company's risk parameters.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between sales, marketing, product, underwriting, and operations.

Product, Underwriting & Risk

  • Oversee the development and management of Life and Non-Life product portfolios.
  • Ensure products remain competitive, commercially viable, customer-relevant, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate underwriting standards and portfolio risk management practices.
  • Partner with actuarial, underwriting, risk, and reinsurance teams to manage exposure and optimize portfolio performance.
  • Ensure effective claims management and controls to protect both customer interests and business profitability.

Operations & Customer Experience

  • Ensure efficient and scalable end-to-end insurance operations, from acquisition and policy administration through claims and customer servicing.
  • Improve processes, systems, and service standards to enhance customer experience and operational effectiveness.
  • Champion digital transformation and the use of technology, analytics, and automation across the business.
  • Establish performance standards and accountability across critical operational functions.

Governance, Compliance & Stakeholder Management

  • Ensure the organization operates within applicable insurance laws, regulations, corporate governance standards, and internal policies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with regulators, shareholders, business partners, reinsurers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness, ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability.
  • Ensure appropriate governance frameworks, controls, and reporting mechanisms are in place.

Organization & People Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing management team with clear accountability for business outcomes.
  • Develop organizational capabilities required to support the company's growth strategy.
  • Establish a performance-oriented culture focused on customer value, commercial discipline, innovation, and execution.
  • Identify and develop future leaders and ensure effective succession planning.
  • Foster collaboration across Life, Non-Life, and corporate functions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Insurance, or a related discipline; advanced business qualifications are an advantage.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience within the insurance, financial services, or related industry, with significant senior leadership exposure.
  • Proven experience managing a sizeable insurance business or multiple business functions with direct P&L accountability.
  • Strong understanding of both Life and/or Non-Life insurance, including distribution, underwriting, claims, product development, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving business growth while maintaining profitability and sound risk practices.
  • Experience working with regulators, boards, shareholders, and senior external stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial judgment, strategic thinking, financial acumen, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Ability to lead transformation, manage complexity, and translate strategy into measurable business results.
