Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) professional to support portfolio-level operational improvement initiatives across a growing healthcare organization. Reporting directly to the Operational Partner / RCM leader, this individual will serve as a key execution partner across multiple initiatives, helping translate strategic priorities into measurable action.
This is not a traditional analyst, administrative support, or executive assistant position. The successful candidate will have strong end-to-end revenue cycle knowledge, understand the KPIs that drive financial and operational performance, and possess the project management skills necessary to independently move initiatives forward.
The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, analytically capable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Rather than waiting for detailed instructions, this individual should be able to understand an objective, determine the appropriate next steps, identify barriers, and drive work toward completion.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Initiative Management
- Maintain and actively manage project plans across multiple RCM improvement initiatives.
- Translate strategic objectives into clear workstreams, milestones, owners, deliverables, and timelines.
- Proactively follow up on outstanding items and identify projects at risk of delay.
- Escalate barriers, missed commitments, and emerging risks with recommended next steps.
- Prepare concise project status updates highlighting accomplishments, risks, decisions needed, and upcoming priorities.
- Coordinate across internal teams, portfolio-company leaders, vendors, and other stakeholders as needed.
RCM Performance & KPI Management
- Maintain recurring RCM performance scorecards and KPI reporting.
- Understand, analyze, and communicate performance across core revenue cycle metrics, including net collection rate, gross and net days in AR, AR aging, clean claim/first-pass acceptance rate, initial and final denial rates, denial categories and root causes, charge lag, payment posting lag, patient collections, bad debt, credit balances, cost to collect, and productivity/staffing metrics.
- Identify unusual trends, deteriorating performance, or areas requiring deeper investigation.
- Perform light analytical work to support operational decision-making.
- Help ensure KPI definitions and reporting methodologies are consistent across organizations.
Vendor Research & Evaluation
- Conduct research on RCM vendors, technologies, and potential operating partners.
- Coordinate vendor evaluations, demonstrations, references, and information gathering.
- Develop structured comparisons of capabilities, pricing, implementation requirements, and expected ROI.
- Track vendor implementation projects and commitments.
- Assist with evaluating existing vendor performance and identifying opportunities for consolidation, replacement, or optimization.
SOP & Process Standardization
- Work with operating teams to document current-state revenue cycle processes.
- Develop and maintain standardized SOP templates.
- Identify opportunities to standardize workflows and best practices across organizations.
- Maintain a centralized repository of approved SOPs, workflows, and supporting documentation.
- Help ensure operational changes are translated into sustainable processes rather than one-time improvements.
Portfolio Support
- Support the Operational Partner on portfolio-company RCM initiatives and selected diligence activities.
- Organize and synthesize information received from portfolio companies.
- Prepare materials and analyses for internal discussions and leadership meetings.
- Participate selectively in meetings with portfolio-company executives, RCM leaders, and operating teams.
- Capture decisions and commitments and ensure agreed-upon actions are completed.
- Support rapid assessment of newly identified revenue cycle issues.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive healthcare revenue cycle experience.
- Strong understanding of the complete revenue cycle from patient access and eligibility through billing, collections, denials, payment posting, patient responsibility, credit balances, and account resolution.
- Demonstrated understanding of the financial and operational KPIs used to evaluate RCM performance.
- Experience managing multiple projects or operational improvement initiatives simultaneously.
- Ability to interpret RCM data and identify meaningful trends without functioning solely as a data analyst.
- Strong Excel and presentation skills.
- Experience developing or standardizing SOPs and operational processes.
- Experience evaluating or managing RCM vendors preferred.
- Experience in multi-site, multi-specialty, PE-backed, or rapidly growing healthcare organizations strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent relevant healthcare experience.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 1–3 weeks, this individual should begin independently maintaining project trackers, updating portfolio RCM scorecards, conducting vendor research, coordinating follow-ups, performing light analysis, and advancing SOP standardization efforts.
Within the first 90 days, the individual should become a trusted extension of the Operational Partner—anticipating needs, identifying risks before they become problems, and independently driving defined workstreams forward.
Success ultimately means creating additional capacity for senior leadership to spend more time on strategic initiatives, complex operational challenges, portfolio-company improvement, and diligence while maintaining strong execution across day-to-day initiatives.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidate naturally asks, What needs to happen next, and how do I move it forward rather than, What would you like me to do next This person should be comfortable with ambiguity, able to create structure where it does not yet exist, and willing to take ownership of outcomes rather than simply completing assigned tasks.
Career Progression
This position is intended to provide meaningful growth opportunities. As the organization and portfolio expand, a high-performing individual can take increasing ownership of RCM improvement initiatives, lead defined workstreams independently, develop deeper relationships with portfolio-company leadership, and potentially progress into a Senior Manager or Director-level operating role.
Work Environment
- Remote position.
- Reports directly to the Operational Partner / RCM leader.
- Regular collaboration across multiple healthcare organizations and leadership teams.
- Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility, prioritization, and independent judgment.
