About the Role
As a Mainframe z/OS & z/VM System Administrator, you will ensure operational stability, manage incidents, and maintain performance across our IBM Mainframe platforms. You'll work with both z/OS and z/VM environments in a hybrid setup, supporting batch processing, system resources, and high-availability operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support IBM Mainframe environments (z/OS & z/VM)
- Perform daily system monitoring, health checks, and proactive issue detection
- Manage incident, problem, and change activities for Mainframe systems
- Support IPL activities, system restarts, and planned/unplanned outages
- Monitor CPU, memory, storage, paging, and workloads
- Perform user and security administration (RACF access coordination)
- Assist in patching, maintenance, and upgrades of Mainframe OS and components
- Support batch processing, scheduling, and job execution
- Troubleshoot issues and coordinate with vendors (e.g., IBM)
- Maintain system documentation and operational procedures
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Mainframe System Administrator
- Experience with z/OS system administration
- Experience with z/VM administration and operations
- Knowledge of JCL, batch scheduling tools (CA-7, Control-M, or equivalent)
- Understanding of Mainframe storage concepts (DASD, tape, SMS)
- Experience supporting IPL, system restarts, and performance monitoring
- Familiarity with ITIL-based incident and change management
Good-to-Have
- Exposure to RACF or other Mainframe security tools
- Experience in banking, financial services, or enterprise environments
- Knowledge of Mainframe virtualization and Linux on z Systems
- Prior experience in 24x7 production environments
