Job Summary
The Mainframe Developer is responsible for developing, testing, maintaining, and supporting business-critical mainframe applications. The role includes working with COBOL, DB2, JCL, and IMS DB/DC, as well as supporting production issues, test execution, and routine application maintenance. The candidate should be able to work with business and technical teams to deliver stable and reliable application support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, JCL, and IMS DB/DC.
- Provide Level 2 application and production support for business-critical mainframe systems.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions and effective test cases.
- Design, review, and execute test scenarios and test cases to validate application changes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, batch processing, database, and production issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Support test data identification, data mining, and validation using database queries.
- Coordinate with onsite, offshore, operations, and business teams to meet delivery timelines and support targets.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in mainframe development, testing, or application support.
- Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, and IMS DB/DC.
- Good knowledge of SQL queries and database validation activities.
- Experience in production support, incident management, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
- Knowledge of mainframe tools and environments.
- Ability to create and execute test scenarios, test cases, and supporting test documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Mainframe Assembler.
- Exposure to on-call support for critical production incidents.
- Experience working in an onsite–offshore delivery model.
- Knowledge of application maintenance, minor configuration updates, and data fixes.
- Experience supporting applications in insurance, banking, or other mainframe-heavy business environments.
