What's The Role All About
The position is primarily responsible for assisting the Litigation Division Head in all legal functions pertaining to the Division (litigation, legal advisory, and documentation).
Responsibilities:
A. Litigation
- Represents the group of companies in litigation and other legal proceedings, from pre-trial, trial to settlement and appeals.
- Conducts research to prosecute or defend cases handled by the Division.
- Validates research or findings of the Legal Officer.
- Prepares pleadings, motions, and other legal documents to be filed in court and quasi-judicial bodies.
- Consults and coordinates with the external legal counsel and other agencies involved in the conduct of litigation proceedings.
B. Gathering of Evidence
- Conducts or assists the Division Head in the gathering of evidence through interview of witnesses, investigation and collating evidence for the prosecution or defense of cases filed by or against the Company.
- Collects and examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits.
C. Legal Advisory
- Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations.
- Advises management concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges.
- Maintains effective liaison with judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.
- Keeps abreast of updates about laws, statutes, court decisions, judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.
D. Documentation and Notarization
- Prepares or reviews legal documents and related contracts.
- Renders notarial services.
E. Management Leadership
- Recommends plans, programs, budget, and performance targets of the department.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities in the department to reach maximum level of employee productivity throughout the workforce.
- Provides upfront leadership in supervising all direct or indirect reports and planning for their career advancement and aspirations.
F. Others
- Gives input to the Division Head regarding performance of the external counsels.
- Provides coaching to junior members of the team.
- Keeps management aware of the types of actions that require legal consideration.
- Participates actively during staff meetings, training programs and other professional development work.
- Suggests alternative methods to business processes which may not necessarily involve Legal Services.
- Makes recommendations on matters pertinent to business operations and other related activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of Bachelor of Laws/Juris Doctor; Licensed Attorney
- At least three (3) years litigation experience with exposure to Civil and Criminal laws
