Job Description
The successful candidate will support legal, compliance, privacy, and AI governance matters for business and operational functions in Singapore and other Asia Pacific region including:
What you will be doing
- Assuming the role as team lead for legal matters relating to Singapore-based functions.
- Advising and counselling on various legal, compliance, privacy, and AI governance matters for Sony's businesses in the Asia Pacific region, including advising internal stakeholders on business-related legal and regulatory issues.
- Drafting, vetting and negotiating a varied range of legal, commercial and corporate documents, as well as reviewing and advising on the company's rights and liabilities under existing commercial and corporate agreements.
- Supporting company secretary matters.
- Conducting privacy impact assessments, and provide solutions for products/services/activities from regional privacy regulatory perspective, and promote and maintain privacy management framework in regions..
- Assessing compliance risks and supporting reginal compliance activities to implement Sony's compliance policies and procedures, compliance training and ethics messaging, compliance reviews and audits, and internal investigations.
- Leading, guiding and supervising junior team members in contract drafting and reviews compliance reviews, privacy reviews, AI assessment, audits, investigations, legal research and policy implementation.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders, Sony legal colleagues in Tokyo and other countries, and external counsel on local and regional legal, compliance, privacy and AI governance matters.
What you should have
- LLB (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and/or a recognized university in a common Asia Pacific law jurisdiction.
- Qualified lawyer with post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial legal work, preferably gained in-house or through a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in legal, compliance and privacy advisory work as an in-house lawyer, preferably in the electronics hardware, software, data and retail business.
- Good working knowledge of commercial, corporate, consumer, privacy, compliance and technology-related laws in Singapore and/or other Asia Pacific jurisdictions.
- Ability to lead junior members and provide clear guidance on legal, compliance, privacy and AI governance matters.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Data protection certifications such as CIPP, CIPM or equivalent would be advantageous.
- Experience in the area of AI governance would be advantageous.

- Experience working in or with different cultures across the Asia Pacific region would be advantageous.
