Legal Counsel

We are looking for a dynamic Legal Counsel – Event & Business Operations to join our team and play a key role in supporting large-scale corporate conventions, international events, and day-to-day business operations.

This role goes beyond traditional legal work, you will work closely with government authorities, internal stakeholders, and global teams to ensure regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and seamless execution of corporate events and business activities.

Key Responsibilities

Government Relations & Regulatory Engagement

• Act as the main point of contact with government authorities and regulatory bodies on matters related to events, including licensing, permits, and operational compliance.
• Coordinate with relevant agencies on immigration, customs, security, and protocol requirements for VIPs, delegates, and participants attending events.
• Manage regulatory submissions, approvals, and communications with both local and international authorities, including during inspections or inquiries.
• Stay updated on regulatory and policy changes, assessing their impact on business operations and advising stakeholders on compliance requirements, particularly for large-scale and cross-border events.

Business Operations & Compliance

• Develop and maintain clear guidelines on business ethics, regulatory requirements, and event compliance for internal teams, vendors, and partners.
• Oversee immigration and regulatory requirements for international participants, including visas, permits, and permitted activities.
• Provide hands-on compliance support during event planning and execution, ensuring risks are identified and managed effectively.
• Establish and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for regulatory engagement, event approvals, and incident management.
• Support company-wide compliance initiatives to ensure adherence to applicable laws, internal policies, and best practices.
• Conduct training sessions for internal teams and partners on compliance, contractual obligations, and risk management.
• Prepare presentations and materials related to partnerships, sponsorships, and major corporate events.

Legal Support

• Provide practical and business-focused legal advice on daily operations, commercial matters, and regulatory issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements and contracts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) and admission to the Malaysian Bar.
• Minimum 4–6 years of experience in corporate, commercial, or regulatory legal work.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Experience working with government authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Strong analytical thinking with the ability to provide practical solutions.
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
• Willingness to travel at short notice when required.
