Legal Counsel - Litigation

Job Summary

Responsible for representing the Bank in litigation matters, providing legal advice on disputes, managing court cases, and protecting the Bank's legal interests. Handles all stages of litigation from case assessment and strategy development through trial, settlement, and appeal.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle civil, criminal, collection, foreclosure, and other litigation matters involving the Bank.
• Represent the Bank in court hearings, mediation, arbitration, and administrative proceedings.
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, affidavits, memoranda, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and provide legal opinions on contentious matters.
• Evaluate claims and defenses and develop litigation strategies.
• Coordinate with external counsel and monitor outsourced cases.
• Manage evidence gathering, witness preparation, and document review.
• Negotiate settlements when appropriate and in the Bank's best interest.
• Monitor developments in laws, regulations, and jurisprudence that may affect the Bank.
• Prepare periodic case status reports and litigation risk assessments.
• Coordinate with business units regarding legal disputes and collection matters.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)
• Member in good standing of the Philippine Bar
• Preferably with 3-8+ years of litigation experience
• Strong background in civil, criminal, commercial, banking, collection, or corporate litigation
• Excellent legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
