Deltek is looking for a Salesforce Development Tech Lead to lead and grow our Global Salesforce engineering team. In this role you will manage and mentor a team of approximately six Salesforce Engineers — a mix of junior- to mid-level Administrators and Developers — while remaining hands-on in building out Salesforce features. You will drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the team, ensure best practices, and follow Salesforce's guiding principles, all while collaborating closely with a USA-based team and supporting Global customers.
The ideal candidate is familiar with all phases of the Salesforce SDLC — designing, coding, testing, and consistently managing applications to establish reliable engineering productivity — and has a declarative-first mindset, reaching for custom code only when configuration cannot meet the requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of approximately six Salesforce Engineers (Administrators and Developers), providing hands-on technical mentorship (coding, architecture, best practices) and administrative mentorship (declarative configuration, platform administration, process governance), and fostering a culture of ownership, career growth, and continuous improvement.
- Act as direct manager in a matrixed in-house / consultant / onshore / offshore framework, coordinating with a USA-based team and supporting USA-based customers.
- Remain hands-on building out Salesforce features across configuration and code: Apex classes and triggers, Flows, SOQL/SOSL, and Lightning Web Components (LWC).
- Serve as gatekeeper for declarative-first solutioning and mentor administrators on configuration best practices, drawing a clear line between declarative configuration and programmatic code in line with Salesforce's guiding principles; refactor to declarative solutions such as Flows where appropriate.
- Own and continuously improve the SDLC, leveraging a third-party Salesforce-focused DevOps tool (Gearset or Copado) and code repositories such as GitHub for source control, CI/CD, release management, and multi-environment (sandbox/production) strategy.
- Build integrations between Salesforce and external applications using REST/SOAP APIs, Bulk and Streaming APIs, Outbound Messaging, OAuth, and SSO; work with integration and ETL tooling such as Workato to move data between Salesforce and connected systems, including commonly integrated applications such as Eloqua, Salesloft, and DocuSign.
- Adhere to and enforce code standards and Apex design patterns; lead code reviews, mentoring, and policy governance to keep solutions well-structured, maintainable, and scalable.
- Understand Salesforce platform capabilities, governor limits, and limit-informed development best practices, staying current with the latest Salesforce releases and emerging platform features.
- Provide high availability for error resolution and technical support at Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels; serve as an escalation point and drive issues to closure.
- Assist with release process and coordination; support documentation of configurations and releases in knowledge repositories.
- Participate in daily Scrum and Agile ceremonies as an active team member; encourage addressing technical debt and contribute to strategic technology planning.
- Leverage AI where appropriate to accelerate development, testing, and support, consistent with Deltek's AI-forward approach.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand pain points and deliver impactful, scalable solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of relevant experience with Salesforce.com development.
- Hands-on experience across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and/or Experience Cloud.
- Proven people-leadership and technical-leadership experience directly managing a Salesforce team (administrators and developers), including hands-on technical mentorship for developers, administrative/configuration mentorship for admins, and broader team development.
- Hands-on Lightning development experience: Apex classes and triggers, Flows, SOQL/SOSL, and Lightning Web Components (LWC).
- Strong command of the full Salesforce SDLC and modern DevOps practices, with direct experience using a third-party Salesforce-focused DevOps tool such as Gearset or Copado and code repositories such as GitHub, with a demonstrated habit of staying current on the latest Salesforce releases and platform innovations.
- Experience building integrations and data migration using REST/SOAP/Bulk/Streaming APIs, OAuth, and SSO, plus familiarity with integration and ETL tools such as Workato, and some hands-on experience with commonly connected applications such as Eloqua, Salesloft, and DocuSign.
- Experience creating and managing sandbox and production environments in a multi-tier, multi-promotion release model.
- Proficiency writing test classes, triggers, batch classes, and future methods, following Apex design patterns.
- Knowledge of Agile methodology and ceremonies (Scrum or Kanban), with proficiency using Agile tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
- Ability to work Eastern Time (ET) zone hours to support U.S.-based teams and customers.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for both technical and business audiences.
