Lead Primary Engineer (Substation)

Undertakes and manages Primary related engineering tasks from the definition of client

requirements, task planning, monitoring, and control scope. Develops high quality designs for

Primary systems for Transmission and Distribution substations and associated power system

equipment. Develops Primary systems for Renewable Energy projects. Assists with factory and site

testing and commissioning of Primary systems where required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ENGINEERING

• Design input and assistance in the preparation of design concepts for HV systems.

• Ensure compliance to standards and specifications; peer review of designs; recommend

authorization of work; compilation of Technical Specifications and Standards; adjudication

and issue of tenders; provision of scope documents, and weekly / monthly reports.

• Ensure compliance with company / client Quality Policies and Procedures.

• Active participation in the development of business, ensuring repeat and new work. Assist the

Engineering Manager with the preparation and review of tenders.

• Resolve technically related project issues during the Construction Phase of projects.

• Assist with the commissioning of HV systems as required.

• Primary: Substation primary system design, specification, and documentation; engineering

and technical analysis and report generation; earthing design; insulation coordination and

electro-magnetic studies; scoping of primary plant and electrical equipment and fittings.

• Overhead Lines: Liaison with overhead line design teams internal and external

consultants.

• Civil & Structural: Liaison with civil and structural design teams internal and external

consultants.

• Buildings and building services: Review and coordination of building and building services

designs provided by consultants and subcontractors.

• Site Services: Review and coordination of site services designs provided by consultants.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent.

• 15+ years experience at a senior level with substation design and/or utility grid connections.

• Turnkey project expertise in transmission and distribution substation design from concept to

commissioning including knowledge of industry and different client standards.

• Significant experience in substation primary design.

• Demonstrated experience in design, including evidence of large project involvement and the

ability to lead designs.

• Evidence of a high level of ability in the preparation and review of Engineering Drawings

• ISO9000/ QA processes and procedures, and AS standards.

• Proven experience in preparing tenders.
