Job Description

Position: Lead Estimator

Employment Type: Full Time

Work Setup: Work from Home

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 03:00 PM – 12:00 AM PH Time Zone

Holidays to follow: United Kingdom (UK)

Qualifications as Lead Estimator:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (RICS accreditation is advantageous but not essential).
  • At least 10 years of proven experience in a similar estimating role.
  • Strong tendering experience, with the ability to manage the full bid lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and submitting PQQs and tender documents.
  • Strong bid writing experience, ideally within the UK construction market; candidates with relevant US or Australian market experience will also be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of construction contracts within the Building and Civil Engineering sectors.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring junior estimators
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and financial acumen.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tenders simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, AutoCAD, build exact or price a job or similar
  • Positive attitude with a strong team player mindset.
  • Ability to align with and contribute to the company's culture and values.

Your responsibilities as a Lead Estimator would be:

  • Lead the estimating function, taking ownership of tendering activities from initial enquiry through to successful contract award.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities in line with company growth objectives and commercial strategy.
  • Work closely with directors and senior management to provide commercial insight, pricing advice, and bid strategy recommendations.
  • Monitor planning portals, frameworks, and procurement platforms to identify suitable tender opportunities.
  • Review tender, contract, and pre-construction documentation to assess scope, risk, compliance, and commercial viability.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of PQQs, SQs, capability statements, and tender returns to a high professional standard.
  • Manage the full tender process, ensuring all submissions are accurate, competitive, compliant, and delivered within deadlines.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost plans, and robust estimates for structural repair, refurbishment, and associated works.
  • Build rates from first principles, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractor input, preliminaries, and risk allowances.
  • Issue and manage subcontractor and supplier enquiries, analyse quotations, and secure best-value procurement solutions.
  • Develop scopes of works, technical proposals, value engineering options, and detailed contractor submissions.
  • Lead bid adjudication reviews, presenting key assumptions, exclusions, risks, and recommendations to senior management prior to submission.
  • Attend client meetings to discuss project requirements, clarify scope, explain proposals, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings with operational and delivery teams to review live and tender-stage projects, monitor budgets, and align commercial objectives.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout the pre-construction, bidding, and handover stages.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract conditions to identify cost risks, opportunities, and programme implications.
  • Oversee project handover to delivery teams, ensuring all commercial, technical, and contractual information is clearly communicated.
  • Review profit analysis reports, tender outcomes, and project feedback to improve estimating accuracy, cost planning, and margin performance.
  • Produce cost comparisons, benchmarking data, budget forecasts, and commercial reports to support decision-making.
  • Maintain and improve supplier, subcontractor, and pricing databases to support efficient and competitive estimating.
  • Drive continuous improvement in estimating systems, bid processes, templates, and reporting standards.
  • Manage, mentor, and support junior estimators, allocating workload and maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and performance across the team.
  • Promote commercial awareness, best practice, and a high-performance culture within the estimating and pre-construction function.
