Job Description

About MAVI

MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies.

We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement. The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance.

The roles we place are embedded positions within the finance function itself. Our professionals work alongside founders, CEOs, and senior leadership on the work that determines whether a business can close its books with confidence, satisfy its auditors, raise its next round, and scale.

Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Accountant to run the close and raise the quality of the accounting work around you at a high-growth US company, working remotely from Philippines.

This role sits between doing the work and leading it. You will stay close to the numbers, owning the most complex entries, reconciliations, and schedules yourself, while reviewing the work of other accountants and making sure the close runs from start to finish without last-minute surprises.

You will work directly with the Controller and US finance leadership, reporting progress, risks, and accounting conclusions. Where review is inconsistent or the same errors recur each month, you will be the person who sets the standard and holds the team to it.

Because you will be working remotely with a lean US team, the role calls for someone who operates with autonomy, communicates proactively, and escalates with a recommendation rather than a problem.

What You'll Own

The Close and Reporting

  • The close. Lead month-end and year-end close activities across entities, monitoring progress, clearing blockers, and holding deadlines.
  • Complex accounting. Independently own complex journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, consolidation schedules, and non-routine transactions.
  • Financial statements. Maintain accurate financial statements under US GAAP and explain material variances against plan and prior periods.
  • Technical questions. Research and document conclusions on revenue recognition, leases, capitalization, and accruals for Controller sign-off.

Review and Team Quality

  • Review. Review the work of staff and senior accountants, giving clear and practical feedback that reduces repeat errors.
  • Coaching. Guide accountants through difficult issues, prioritization, and quality standards.
  • Documentation. Improve SOPs, close checklists, and review processes so the close does not depend on any single person.

Controls, Audit, and Partnership

  • Audit coordination. Support audit and review requests, prepare PBC schedules, and help resolve auditor questions.
  • Controls. Identify control gaps in recurring workflows and put practical fixes in place.
  • Stakeholder communication. Communicate risks, progress, and accounting conclusions to Controllers, CFOs, and department leaders.
  • Systems and automation. Identify opportunities to automate reconciliations, accruals, and reporting within the company's ERP and tooling.

What We're Looking For

  • 6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of the month-end close
  • Experience reviewing or guiding the work of other accountants, whether through direct or informal leadership
  • Strong command of US GAAP and the three financial statements, including working knowledge of ASC 606 and ASC 842; transferable PFRS or IFRS experience with strong US-client exposure will be considered
  • Confidence resolving complex reconciliations, intercompany balances, and non-routine accounting issues
  • Experience in a multi-entity, high-growth, shared-services, or client-service environment
  • ERP experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, Xero, or a comparable system, alongside modern finance tooling such as Ramp, Brex, Bill.com, or FloQast
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Experience working remotely with US-based leadership and auditors
  • Excellent written and verbal English, and the ability to give constructive feedback
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Preferred

  • Philippine CPA (PRC-licensed), US CPA, ACCA, or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Big 4 or public accounting experience followed by industry experience
  • Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed US company
  • SaaS, e-commerce, professional services, or recurring-revenue experience
  • Exposure to audit preparation or an ERP migration

Who This Role Is For

This role suits a hands-on accountant who is ready to take responsibility for the quality of the team's output, not only their own.

You would rather fix the review process than correct the same error every month. You stay close enough to the work to spot problems early, and you communicate them clearly to the people who need to know.

Why Join Through MAVI

  • Stay hands-on while expanding into review and team leadership
  • Work directly with US Controllers, CFOs, and finance teams
  • Work to US GAAP with US auditors and US systems, on the standard that opens international opportunities
  • Progress toward Accounting Manager and Assistant Controller opportunities through MAVI
  • USD-denominated compensation aligned with experience and scope
  • Receive MAVI's support throughout placement, onboarding, and the engagement that follows

Work Arrangement

This is a fully remote role. You will work directly with US-based finance leadership and auditors, and you will be placed with a single client company for the duration of the engagement rather than rotated across accounts.

Full-time roles require a minimum of 4 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern Time (ET). Part-time roles require a minimum of 2 hours. The rest of your schedule is arranged around your local working day.
