Job Overview:
The Junior Data Engineer supports the day-to-day operational needs of the Data Engineering & Support function. The role is primarily focused on the timely fulfillment of ad hoc data extract requests and the resolution of report-related incidents across various business units, managed through JIRA.
Working under the guidance of senior data engineers, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining and executing data pipelines that enable the reliable collection, processing, and delivery of data into reports, dashboards, and consuming systems. This role bridges business needs and technical execution — translating extract and reporting requirements from business stakeholders into structured, repeatable data solutions.
The Junior Data Engineer plays a hands-on, delivery-focused role where responsiveness, accuracy, and data quality are paramount to supporting business operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Pipeline Design and Maintenance:
- Assist in minor enhancements or fixes to pipeline logic as directed by the senior data engineering team.
BAU support:
- Support adhoc and BAU requirements in relation to Data Pipelines and Reports.
- Fulfill data extract requests accurately and within agreed SLAs, ensuring outputs meet the specifications defined by the requesting business unit.
- Investigate and resolve data discrepancies, broken pipelines, failed jobs, or incorrect report outputs in a timely manner.
- Escalate complex or ambiguous requests to the senior data engineering team with sufficient context.
- Ensure outputs are validated against business expectations before delivery.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for recurring extract patterns, pipeline configurations, and known incident resolutions.
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Preferably has worked with Microsoft Azure an1d Postgre SQL technologies.
- In depth knowledge of database systems (SQL and NoSQL)
- Data warehousing solutions
- Strong programming knowledge (Python, R, etc.)
- Expertise in combining data from multiple sources to data warehouse (ETL, ELT)
- Familiarity with JIRA or similar ticketing/project management tools
- Proficient in developing reports in PowerBI
- Data modelling
- Query performance tuning
- Process and detail oriented, can multitask, and can manage end user expectations
- Collaborative and proactive team player
- Experience in data storytelling preferred
- BSc/BA in Computer Science / Engineering, or any relevant field
- 2 to 4 years experience as a data engineer preferred
