Responsibilities:
Financial & Tax Compliance

Financial Statements: Prepare basic to intermediate end-of-year fi nancial statements for sole traders, partnerships, trusts, and companies under senior supervision.

Tax Returns: Assist in preparing tax returns across all entity types, ensuring accuracy and
compliance with relevant legislation.
●
Activity Statements: Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) efficiently for review.
●
Tax Advisory Support: Assist Directors and Senior Accountants with background research and drafting notes on client tax queries.
Quality & Professional Development
●
Workpaper Preparation: Produce clear, accurate, and structured workpapers to allow for efficient review by senior staff.
●
Feedback & Growth: Actively incorporate review feedback from senior team members to develop technical competency and tax knowledge.
Client & Stakeholder Support
●
Liaison: Assist with routine client follow-ups and basic inquiries with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
●
Ad-Hoc Support: Help prepare management reports, cash fl ow schedules, and administrative support for client advisory projects.
Key Selection Criteria (Foundational Knowledge & Experience)
To be successful in this entry-level role, you should possess a solid foundational understanding of Australian taxation principles and an eagerness to apply them hands-on:
Basic Tax Knowledge: Exposure to or willingness to learn core Australian tax concepts, such as:

Division 7A (Div7A): General understanding of shareholder loan implications.
○
Goods and Services Tax (GST) & BAS: Practical exposure to GST rules and preparing activity statements.
○
Personal Services Income (PSI) & Non-Commercial Losses: Understanding basic principles and applicability.
○
Entity Structures: Familiarity with how sole traders, partnerships, trusts, and companies operate for tax purposes.
Analytical Skills: Strong numerical accuracy and an appetite for researching complex technical questions under guidance.
Software Aptitude: Willingness and speed in learning public practice tax and accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or HandiSoft/APS).

● Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or Commerce.
● Certification: CA or CPA qualification (commenced, or willingness to undertake CA/CPA studies preferred).
● Experience: Fresh graduate to 2 years of experience within an Australian public practice accounting firm.
● Software: Familiarity or experience with modern cloud accounting ecosystems (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks) and tax preparation software.
● Soft Skills: Strong eagerness to learn, exceptional communication skills, high motivation, and a sharp eye for detail.
