1.0 General
The Shipyard Junior Planner / Estimator supports vessel repair, maintenance, and new-build projects by assisting in project planning, cost estimation, and resource coordination. This role works closely with production, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure accurate budgeting, scheduling, and execution of shipyard activities.
2.0 Duties And Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling
- Assist in developing work breakdown structures (WBS) for ship repair or construction projects
- Prepare and update project schedules using planning software
- Coordinate with production supervisors to determine labor hours and sequencing
- Monitor project progress and update planning documentation accordingly
Estimating
- Review drawings, specifications, and scope of work to prepare cost estimates
- Perform material take-offs and labor hour calculations
- Assist in preparing bid proposals and cost summaries
- Maintain historical cost data for future reference
Coordination & Documentation
- Liaise with procurement to confirm material pricing and lead times
- Support change order documentation and cost impact analysis
- Maintain project files, estimates, and reports
