POSITION SUMMARY
The Junior Maintenance Engineer supports the maintenance team in performing preventive maintenance activities for telecom network equipment, power systems, air conditioning units, and electrical systems. Under the guidance of senior engineers and the Maintenance Manager, the role assists in identifying potential equipment issues, executing scheduled maintenance tasks, and ensuring site infrastructure operates reliably – all while developing technical competence and adhering to safety, quality, and company standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventive Planning & Scheduling
• Assist in implementing and maintaining preventive maintenance schedules for telecom, power, ACU and electrical assets across Radius sites, under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Support the timely completion of preventive maintenance activities per the approved maintenance calendar; assist in tracking and reporting PM compliance rates.
• Assist in reviewing equipment maintenance histories and identifying patterns of recurring failures for escalation to senior engineers for analysis and schedule adjustments.
• Coordinate with senior engineers and relevant teams to support preventive maintenance windows that minimize service disruption
• Maintain an up-to-date asset register and PM checklist for all equipment under care.
Network and Telecom Equipment Preventive Maintenance
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on routers, switches, core equipment per OEM and company Preventive Maintenance standards
• Inspect and clean telecom cabinets, check cable integrity, and verify alarm thresholds and system parameters
• Monitor and perform preventive maintenance on power systems including rectifiers, batteries, generators, and UPS units; conduct battery load tests as scheduled.
• Identify and report any equipment anomalies, degradation signs or impending failures for timely corrective actions.
Air Conditioning Unit (ACU) Preventive Maintenance
• Support ACU preventive maintenance activities conducted by Radius Telecoms accredited HVAC/refrigerants contractors across all sites, under the direction of senior engineers.
• Assist in preparing preventive maintenance schedules, work plans and checklists in alignment with company standards.
• Accompany accredited contractors during ACU PM visits and assist in verifying that all PM tasks are properly performed per the approved scope of work, escalating concerns to senior engineers.
• Monitor and record site temperature before and after contractor PM to validate effectiveness or maintenance activities.
• Review contractor PM reports, inspection findings, and service records; flag and escalate any incomplete or substandard work to senior engineers for appropriate action.
• Coordinate with contractor for prompt scheduling of follow-up repairs or replacement of components identified during PM inspections.
• Maintain a consolidated ACU maintenance tracker covering contractor PM schedules, completion status, service reports and equipment history per site.
• Ensure all contractor personnel comply with Radius Telecoms site access, safety, and OSHS requirements during ACU PM activities.
Electrical System Preventive Maintenance
• Perform scheduled inspection and testing of site electrical systems including main distribution boards, circuit breakers and wiring systems.
• Monitor power quality parameters including voltage, current and others. Document readings and flag abnormal trends for corrective action.
• Monitor installation, testing and project acceptance of new electrical infrastructure during site build-out and expansion projects
• Participate in build acceptance inspections of newly installed or upgraded electrical systems, assisting senior engineers with observations on maintainability and PM accessibility.
• Assist in reviewing build acceptance documentation, as-built drawings, and turnover reports prior to site handover to ensure completeness for future preventive maintenance reference.
• Ensure all electrical PM works are carried out in full compliance with Radius telecoms electrical safety standards.
Field Operations and Site Support
• Conduct regular site visits to perform PM inspections verify that all infrastructure systems are within acceptable operating conditions.
• Monitor installation, testing and project acceptance of new telecom, electrical and ACU equipment during site built out and upgrades.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams during scheduled PM and site improvement activities.
• Assist in performing site condition assessments and support senior engineers in submitting recommendations to improve reliability and extend equipment life.
Monitoring, Reporting and Compliance
• Document all maintenance activities, site conditions and equipment statuses in the company's maintenance management system.
• Prepare and submit accurate preventive maintenance reports, completion logs and inspection checklists.
• Maintain a PM tracking dashboard or system to monitor scheduled vs completed PM activities.
• Ensure compliance with Radius Telecoms safety and quality policies.
• Support root cause analysis (RCA) activities for equipment failures linked to inadequate preventive maintenance, providing data and observations to senior engineers for corrective PM improvements.
• Assist in monitoring inventory levels of materials for PM activities and coordinate timely replenishment requests to avoid stockouts.
Health, Safety & Environment
• Strictly observe all safety protocols when working at heights, handling high-voltage equipment, or in confined spaces.
• Always use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) during field operations.
• Report unsafe conditions, near-miss incidents, and accidents immediately to supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Licensed Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineer (REE/RME/PEE) is an advantage but not required for entry-level applicants.
Experience
• 0–1 year of experience in telecommunications maintenance, field engineering, or network operations. Fresh graduates with relevant internship or OJT experience are encouraged to apply.
• Exposure to or basic knowledge of PM programs for telecom, electrical, or mechanical systems (academic or on-the-job training is acceptable)
• Background in power systems (Rectifiers, generators, batteries) is an advantage
TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Proficiency with test and measurement equipment: OTDR, power meter, etc.
• Familiarity with telecommunications equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Nokia, etc.
• Basic knowledge of IP networking, VoIP, and broadband technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and network maps.
• Basic ability to review contractor PM reports and identify tasks that may require escalation to senior engineers for quality validation.
• Knowledge of electrical systems including distribution boards, ATS, surge protection, grounding, and power quality monitoring in accordance with the Philippine Electrical Code.
• Knowledge in ACU/HVAC maintenance including refrigerant handling, coil cleaning and fault diagnosis.
COMPETENCIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under pressure.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail in documentation and reporting
• Physically fit to perform field work.
• Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, holidays and respond to emergency callouts.
• Must possess a valid driver's license (professional or non-professional).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, outdoor settings, and energized equipment areas.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as always required.@
WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS
• Outdoor and indoor field environments, including aerial, underground vault, and equipment room work.
• Required to drive a company vehicle; valid driver's license with a clean driving record is mandatory.
• Standard schedule is Monday through Friday; on-call rotation and overtime may be required, including evenings and weekends during outages or scheduled shutdowns.
