About the Role
You'll help take AI features from concept to production — understanding requirements, designing the approach, building integrations, connecting systems and APIs, testing functionality, deploying solutions, and improving them based on real-world use.
As a startup with a lean team, we value people who are hands-on, adaptable, curious, and willing to take ownership. You'll have the opportunity to contribute across the product rather than being limited to one small area.
The role may involve:
- Conversational AI and AI assistants
- Voice AI and speech-to-speech interactions
- LLM integration
- AI-powered accounting workflows
- APIs and backend integrations
- Structured outputs and tool/function calling
- AI automation and intelligent workflows
- Context and conversation management
- AI guardrails and validation
- Human-in-the-loop workflows
- AI reliability, performance, latency, and cost optimization
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate AI and LLM capabilities into our accounting software.
- Build APIs, backend services, middleware, and integration components.
- Connect AI services with application data, databases, APIs, and existing systems.
- Develop conversational and voice-based AI functionality.
- Build AI workflows using structured outputs, tool/function calling, and system actions.
- Translate business and accounting requirements into practical AI functionality.
- Define AI boundaries, permissions, validation rules, fallback behavior, and guardrails.
- Help reduce hallucinations, unsupported outputs, and unintended system actions.
- Ensure AI functionality follows accounting, security, authorization, and business controls.
- Collaborate with the Solution Architect on AI architecture and technical decisions.
- Work with Developers and Programmers to implement AI-powered features.
- Test and troubleshoot AI integrations before QA.
- Work with QA to investigate defects and validate fixes.
- Support deployment, monitoring, logging, and production troubleshooting.
- Continuously improve AI reliability, accuracy, performance, latency, cost efficiency, and user experience.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for integrations, APIs, workflows, controls, and known limitations.
- Share knowledge with the wider development team.
What We're Looking For
We're more interested in what you can build, how you solve problems, and your willingness to learn than simply counting years of experience.
You may be a good fit if you have:
- Hands-on software development experience.
- Practical experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into applications, either professionally or through strong personal or academic projects.
- Experience with APIs, backend services, databases, and system integrations.
- Familiarity with LLM APIs, prompt and system instruction design, structured outputs, context management, or tool/function calling.
- An understanding of AI limitations, hallucinations, validation, guardrails, and fallback mechanisms.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.
- Good communication and technical documentation skills.
- Interest in learning accounting and business workflows.
Experience with conversational AI, voice AI, speech-to-speech, RAG, vector databases, AI agents, cloud AI services, SaaS, ERP, Xero, QuickBooks, or accounting software is an advantage, but you do not need to know everything on this list.
Junior Candidates Are Welcome
If you're a junior developer or early-career engineer with strong practical AI experience, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement.
We value demonstrated ability and potential.
Personal projects, GitHub repositories, prototypes, university projects, hackathon projects, or other practical AI work are welcome as evidence of your capabilities.
Why Join Us
Working in a startup means having the opportunity to contribute directly to the product, work closely with the technical team, take ownership of meaningful features, and gain exposure to different areas of software and AI development.
We're looking for someone who enjoys building, experimenting, learning, solving integration challenges, and turning AI into practical software that people can actually use.
