Responsible for evaluating, authenticating, and appraising jewelry items presented in branch operations. The role ensures accurate assessment of gold, precious metals, gemstones, and other jewelry items in accordance with company standards and appraisal guidelines. The position also supports branch operations through technical expertise, training, quality control, and appraisal verification to maintain consistency, accuracy, and customer trust.
This position is within the pawnshop industry; therefore, familiarity with jewelry appraisal, gemstone identification, precious metals testing, branch operations, and compliance processes is relevant to the role's responsibilities.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct accurate appraisal and evaluation of jewelry items received from branches.
- Verify the authenticity, quality, and condition of gold, gemstones, diamonds, and other precious materials.
- Perform precious metal testing using approved appraisal methods and equipment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to branch personnel regarding jewelry appraisal procedures.
- Review and validate appraisal results to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of appraisal guidelines and quality control measures.
- Conduct branch visits, audits, and spot checks related to jewelry appraisal activities.
- Prepare appraisal reports, documentation, and related records.
- Monitor market trends and pricing movements affecting jewelry valuation.
- Assist in training branch personnel on jewelry identification, appraisal techniques, and fraud detection.
- Ensure proper handling, safekeeping, and documentation of jewelry items under evaluation.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Graduate of any business-related, technical, gemology, or equivalent course.
- Certification in jewelry appraisal, gemstone identification, gemology, or precious metals testing is relevant to the role.
- At least 35 years of experience in jewelry appraisal, retail jewelry operations, pawnshop operations, or related functions.
- Familiarity with auction houses, jewelry stores, appraisal centers, or similar environments.
- Knowledge of gold testing, gemstone identification, diamond grading, and jewelry valuation techniques.
- Experience using appraisal tools and testing equipment.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and accountability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willing to travel and perform fieldwork assignments when required.
