We are seeking a detail-driven, proactive Intermediate Tax Accountant to support Senior Accountants and Client Managers in delivering high-quality accounting, taxation, and statutory compliance services for Australian business clients. Operating 100% remotely during daytime business hours, you will prepare workpapers, financial statements, activity statements, and tax returns across multi-entity structures while identifying tax planning opportunities and ensuring strict compliance with ATO requirements.
Your Impact
- Financial Statements & Tax Preparation: Prepare review-ready financial statements and income tax returns for individuals, sole traders, partnerships, trusts, and companies.
- Compliance & Activity Statements: Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns, and payroll reconciliations.
- General Ledger & Bookkeeping: Conduct day-to-day bookkeeping, general ledger maintenance, month-end/year-end closing adjustments, and account reconciliations.
- Portfolio & Administrative Support: Manage client file records, track compliance workflows against internal and ATO deadlines, navigate the ATO Portal, and resolve accounting queries under senior guidance.
- Team Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Work collaboratively with senior, intermediate, and graduate accountants, offering technical assistance to peers and contributing to continuous workflow improvements.
What You Bring
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Commerce, or a related discipline with 3 to 5 years of solid Australian accounting experience within a public practice firm.
- Taxation & Structure Expertise: Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and tax legislation across diverse entity structures (companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders, individuals). Exposure to SMSF compliance is an advantage.
- Software Competency: High proficiency in Xero or MYOB, Microsoft Office (advanced Excel), and compliance tools. Experience with MYOB AE, Class Super, and ATO Portal systems is preferred; Xero Advisor certification is highly regarded.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, sharp analytical skills, ability to manage competing deadlines, and excellent written and verbal English communication.
