Job Description
As the Japanese office of KPMG Global Strategy Group, you will support clients across the M&A lifecycle, with a particular focus on creating and protecting deal value through deliberate planning and execution of complex M&A integrations and separations across the deal lifecycle, with a focus on people, organisation and workforce-related matters. You will work with corporate and private equity clients to develop and execute integration, separation and value creation initiatives, helping organizations realize deal value and achieve strategic objectives before, during and after transactions. The role will also involve supporting cross-border projects and engagements requiring Japanese language capabilities, while working closely with KPMG teams across multiple geographies and industries.
The Role
- You will conduct Human Resources and Organizational Due Diligence (HRDD), including the assessment of organizational structures, human resources practices, labour matters and pension schemes during the pre-deal phase of M&A transactions.
- You will design executive compensation programmes, core HR systems, HR operating models, pension and insurance programmes, and employee benefits in the context of post-acquisition integrations, separations and internal group reorganisations.
- You will support organisational culture transformation and change management initiatives arising from post-acquisition integrations, separations and internal group restructurings.
- You will advise clients on organisational and people strategies in preparation for post-investment or post-restructuring environments, including the development and implementation of initiatives to improve organisational effectiveness and governance.
- You will deliver high levels of client satisfaction throughout engagements, managing client interactions and updates, taking ownership of deliverables and outputs.
- You will provide high-quality insights and recommendations to clients on people, organisational and transaction-related matters.
- You will identify potential issues that may impact project success and support clients in developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
- You will work collaboratively with wider KPMG service lines and geographies, including Deal Advisory, Strategy and other transaction-related teams, to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
- You will be responsible for performance management, coaching, mentoring and supporting team members to help them reach their full potential.
- You will contribute to practice development initiatives and support the continued growth of the business.
- You will prepare and deliver high-quality client presentations, reports and management materials, while maintaining regular communication with senior client stakeholders throughout the engagement.
- You will support cross-border engagements involving Japanese and non-Japanese stakeholders, leveraging Japanese language capabilities where required to facilitate discussions, analyses and project delivery.
- You will contribute to business development activities, including proposal support, thought leadership initiatives, client presentations and relationship-building activities.
Job Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in HR consulting, people and organisation advisory, transaction services, or related corporate functions.
- Experience advising on HR strategy, organisational design, labour relations, pension schemes and other people-related matters in domestic and/or cross-border environments is preferred.
- Experience in HR planning, corporate planning, PMI, organisational transformation, restructuring or HR-related project management will be advantageous.
- Fluent in English with excellent written and oral communication.
- Fluent in Japanese with excellent written and oral communication.
- Good presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with senior management teams at client organisations.
- Willing to travel in support of business requirements, as needed.
- Experience in developing and delivering articulate client proposals and leading business development initiatives.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project and time management skills.
- Self-motivated, well-organised with a positive attitude towards challenges.
- Enthusiasm and aptitude to forge strong relationships, lead a team, at times based across multiple geographies.
- Comfort in working in the high pressured, yet often ambiguous and flexible, conditions that characterise transactions.
