JOB SUMMARY
The Hydraulics Modeller will play a key role in supporting UK water industry clients with the delivery of capital investment programmes and the effective management of drainage networks. With over 5 years experience in hydraulic modelling using InfoWorks ICM, the role involves leading and enhancing model development, incorporating growth and refinement, and conducting advanced analysis to improve the accuracy and reliability of network performance predictions.
This position covers foul, stormwater, and combined drainage systems, including pumped flows, overflows, storage structures, and complex network interactions. Responsibilities extend from strategic catchment reviews to the development of detailed drainage strategies for both small communities and large urban areas. The role also provides responsive support through bespoke assessments of network conditions, identifying service risks, and recommending mitigation measures to ensure resilience and regulatory compliance.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a technical lead in the development, verification, operation, and maintenance of 1D hydraulic models for foul, storm, and combined drainage networks.
- Oversee performance analysis of drainage systems to evaluate compliance, resilience, and service-level risks.
- Develop, refine, and maintain robust hydraulic models representing key infrastructure such as pumping stations, tanks, overflows, and control structures.
- Simulate and interpret hydraulic scenarios including design storm events, climate change impacts, and operational interventions to support long-term planning.
- Diagnose system deficiencies, flooding mechanisms, and capacity constraints, and propose technically sound mitigation strategies.
- Lead integration and analysis of diverse datasets (GIS, LiDAR, telemetry, asset records, site surveys) to improve model reliability and predictive accuracy.
- Guide junior team members and review technical outputs to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with modelling standards.
- Prepare clear, client-focused technical reports and present results effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including regulators.
- (Desirable) Streamline modelling workflows and automate data-handling tasks using Python, SQL, or InfoWorks scripting tools.
