Job Description
The Solar Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer is responsible for ensuring that all solar energy project activities are conducted in compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards. The role focuses on minimizing risks, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring environmental sustainability across project sites.
Responsibilities:
Safety Management
- Implement, monitor, and continuously improve HSE management systems on-site
- Enforce safety policies, procedures, and best practices
- Ensure all site activities comply with company and regulatory safety requirements
Risk Assessment and Control
- Conduct regular and systematic risk assessments to identify potential hazards
- Develop and implement effective risk mitigation measures
- Monitor the effectiveness of control measures and recommend improvements
Training and Awareness
- Deliver HSE induction programs for new employees, contractors, and visitors
- Conduct regular safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all project personnel
Incident Management
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses in a timely manner
- Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Ensure implementation of measures to prevent recurrence
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, company policies, and international HSE standards
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies and support audits and inspections
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant HSE legislation and industry practices
Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Develop and implement emergency response and crisis management plans
- Conduct emergency drills and ensure readiness of all site personnel
- Coordinate response activities during emergencies
Environmental Management
- Monitor and manage the environmental impact of project activities
- Oversee waste management, pollution prevention, and resource efficiency initiatives
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and sustainability standards
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of HSE activities
- Document inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions
- Prepare regular HSE reports for management review
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field
- Relevant certifications in HSE (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent) preferred
- Proven experience in HSE roles, preferably in solar or construction projects
- Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work on-site and handle emergency situations effectively
