Job Description

HEAD SOMMELIER

Job Responsibilities:

  • Wine Program Management
  • Curate and update wine lists.
  • Recommend pairings with menu items.
  • Administer purchasing, receiving, and storage of wines.
  • Operations & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with food and beverage hygiene standards.
  • Implement cost and quality controls.
  • Manage loss/risk prevention related to wine inventory.
  • Guest Experience
  • Advise guests on wine choices.
  • Deliver high-quality service and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Handle queries and resolve complaints related to wine service.
  • Team Leadership
  • Train and supervise sommeliers and service staff.
  • Conduct performance assessments.
  • Lead the team in implementing service improvements.
  • Financial & Reporting
  • Prepare sales and performance reports.
  • Manage budgets related to wine and beverage operations.
  • Support business continuity planning.

Job requirements:

  • Deep knowledge of wines, regions, and vintages.
  • Strong palate for tasting and pairing.
  • Wine certifications (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers) preferred but not mandatory.
  • Excellent communication and guest interaction skills.
  • Leadership and team management.
  • Financial acumen (budgeting, cost control).
  • Ability to maintain supplier relationships and negotiate effectively.
