Job Description

About The Role

As Head of Partnerships, you will lead the development and expansion of PayMongo's strategic partner ecosystem, creating opportunities that accelerate revenue growth, strengthen our product capabilities, expand distribution, and improve commercial economics. PayMongo operates within a highly interconnected financial technology ecosystem. Banks, financial institutions, payment networks, e-wallets, technology providers, and platforms play an important role in how we deliver financial solutions to Philippine businesses. Your responsibility is to turn these external relationships into measurable commercial and strategic value.

This is a senior leadership role that combines partnership strategy, business development, complex commercial negotiations, financial and partnership economics, and cross-functional execution. You will identify where partnerships can create the greatest value, build relationships with senior decision-makers, structure commercially viable agreements, and ensure that these partnerships translate into launched capabilities, new distribution opportunities, and sustainable growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will also serve as a senior external representative of PayMongo, building long-term relationships that strengthen our position within the Philippine payments and financial services landscape.

What You Will Do Develop & Own PayMongo's Partnership Strategy

You will define where and how strategic partnerships can accelerate PayMongo's commercial growth and long-term competitive position.

You Will:

  • Develop a multi-year partnership strategy aligned with PayMongo's business, product, and commercial priorities.
  • Map the Philippine payments and fintech ecosystem to identify potential partners across banking, financial services, payment networks, wallets, technology platforms, and adjacent industries.
  • Prioritize opportunities based on revenue potential, merchant impact, strategic importance, implementation feasibility, and partnership economics.
  • Develop business cases and commercial models to support investment and partnership decisions.
  • Maintain a strategic partnership roadmap and pipeline with clear priorities, milestones, ownership, and expected outcomes.
  • Regularly evaluate the partnership portfolio and recommend where PayMongo should deepen, expand, restructure, or exit relationships.
  • Present strategic partnership priorities and recommendations to executive leadership.

Identify, Acquire & Develop Strategic Partners

You will build a strong external network and originate partnership opportunities that expand PayMongo's reach, capabilities, and commercial potential.

You Will:

  • Proactively identify and engage high-value prospective partners across banking, payments, financial services, technology, e-commerce, SaaS, and platform ecosystems.
  • Establish senior-level relationships with executives and key decision-makers within target organizations.
  • Understand prospective partners strategic objectives, capabilities, business models, and commercial priorities.
  • Develop compelling partnership propositions that articulate clear mutual value.
  • Lead the partnership development process from initial engagement through commercial agreement and activation.
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of strategic opportunities.
  • Leverage your external network to create access to new revenue streams, distribution channels, product capabilities, and market opportunities.

Lead Commercial Negotiations & Deal Structuring

You will lead complex negotiations and establish partnership agreements that create sustainable value for PayMongo and its partners.

You Will:

  • Lead end-to-end commercial negotiations with banks, financial institutions, payment providers, technology companies, and other strategic partners.
  • Structure commercial arrangements involving pricing, revenue sharing, transaction fees, volume commitments, incentives, and minimum guarantees or commitments.
  • Work closely with Finance to assess partnership economics, including revenue, Gross Profit, margins, investment requirements, and expected returns.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Product, and other stakeholders to structure commercially attractive and operationally viable agreements.
  • Negotiate service levels, integration requirements, implementation responsibilities, governance mechanisms, and escalation arrangements.
  • Evaluate commercial trade-offs to protect PayMongo's long-term interests while maintaining mutually beneficial partner relationships.
  • Present major partnership proposals and commercial recommendations to executive leadership.

Manage & Grow Strategic Partner Relationships

You will ensure that PayMongo's most important partnerships remain commercially productive, strategically relevant, and mutually beneficial over time.

You Will:

  • Own senior-level relationships with PayMongo's key strategic partners.
  • Establish governance structures, performance expectations, and success metrics for major partnerships.
  • Conduct regular business reviews to assess commercial performance, operational issues, and opportunities for growth.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing relationships through additional products, higher transaction volumes, new use cases, and expanded commercial arrangements.
  • Proactively address partner concerns and coordinate resolution of critical issues.
  • Monitor partner relationship health and maintain executive-level engagement.
  • Strengthen PayMongo's credibility as a long-term strategic partner within the financial services and technology ecosystem.

Drive Partnership Implementation & Cross-Functional Execution

You will ensure that partnership agreements translate into operational capabilities and measurable business results.

You Will:

  • Translate signed agreements into clear implementation plans, milestones, responsibilities, and success criteria.
  • Coordinate with Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Commercial to enable successful implementation.
  • Ensure that commercial, technical, regulatory, and operational requirements are clearly understood and incorporated into delivery plans.
  • Identify implementation dependencies, address bottlenecks, and facilitate cross-functional resolution.
  • Support go-to-market planning and partner activation for new products, capabilities, or distribution opportunities.
  • Conduct post-launch reviews to evaluate performance and identify improvements.
  • Maintain accountability for ensuring that partnerships progress from agreement to activation and commercial productivity.

Manage Partnership Economics & Portfolio Performance

You will establish the financial and operational discipline required to ensure that partnerships deliver meaningful returns.

You Will:

  • Define performance metrics covering revenue, Gross Profit, TPV, adoption, operational performance, and strategic contribution.
  • Work with Finance and Insights & Analytics to develop partnership performance dashboards and reporting mechanisms.
  • Monitor partnership economics and identify opportunities to improve pricing, margins, utilization, and commercial structures.
  • Evaluate the partnership portfolio to determine which relationships generate the greatest financial and strategic value.
  • Recommend interventions for underperforming partnerships and expansion strategies for high-performing relationships.
  • Provide regular performance updates and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Ensure that partnership decisions are guided by measurable outcomes rather than simply the number of agreements signed.

Lead & Develop the Partnerships Organization

You will establish the direction, operating standards, and organizational capabilities required to consistently originate and scale strategic partnerships.

You Will:

  • Define clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and objectives across the Partnerships function.
  • Coach and develop team members in partnership development, commercial negotiation, financial thinking, and stakeholder management.
  • Establish disciplined processes for prospecting, pipeline management, deal development, implementation, and performance monitoring.
  • Build consistent governance, documentation, and reporting standards.
  • Strengthen organizational capability and develop talent within the Partnerships function.
  • Represent the function in executive discussions and strategic planning activities.
  • Foster a commercially driven, collaborative, and accountable team environment.

Tools You Will Work With

You will use a combination of partnership management, commercial analytics, financial modeling, and project execution tools to manage opportunities and performance.

These Include:

  • CRM and partnership management systems – for managing prospective partners, deal pipelines, relationship activities, and partnership opportunities.
  • Google Sheets and financial modeling tools – for evaluating commercial structures, revenue opportunities, margins, partnership economics, and expected returns.
  • Business intelligence dashboards – for tracking partner-generated revenue, Gross Profit, TPV, activation, and portfolio performance.
  • Market and competitive intelligence sources – for identifying ecosystem opportunities and evaluating prospective partners.
  • Contract management and business case tools – for structuring, evaluating, and documenting commercial agreements.
  • Project management and collaboration tools, including Jira and Confluence where applicable, for coordinating partnership implementations and cross-functional deliverables.
  • Partner scorecards and performance trackers – for monitoring relationship health, commercial commitments, and strategic outcomes.

What matters most is your ability to use commercial data, financial models, and partnership intelligence to make well-informed strategic decisions and translate opportunities into measurable results.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced strategic partnerships and business development leader with strong commercial judgment, an established understanding of the payments and financial services ecosystem, and a track record of developing complex, high-value partnerships.

You Should Bring:

  • Advanced expertise in strategic partnership development, with demonstrated experience identifying, structuring, negotiating, launching, and growing complex partnerships with large organizations.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and deal-structuring capabilities, including pricing, revenue-sharing arrangements, commercial incentives, service levels, and enterprise partnership agreements.

  • Strong knowledge of payments and financial services, including payment acceptance, acquiring, banking, cards, wallets, payment networks, embedded finance, and related financial infrastructure.
  • Experience managing strategic partnership pipelines and portfolios from prospecting through negotiation, activation, and ongoing performance management.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret commercial and operational data to guide partnership decisions.
  • An established ability to build trusted relationships with senior executives across banks, financial institutions, technology companies, and other strategic ecosystem participants.
  • Advanced executive communication and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex commercial propositions and represent PayMongo credibly to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to mobilize teams across Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Commercial.
  • Thorough familiarity with the Philippine financial services and fintech landscape, including relevant industry participants, competitive dynamics, and partnership models.
  • Working knowledge of BSP and other regulatory considerations relevant to financial and payments partnerships.
  • Strong people leadership capability, including setting direction, developing talent, and establishing performance accountability.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity, lengthy negotiation cycles, competing priorities, and complex commercial or operational challenges.

Beyond experience and technical expertise, you should bring a strategic but execution-oriented mindset—someone who can identify where partnerships create value, negotiate sound agreements, and remain accountable for translating those agreements into commercial outcomes.

Nice to Have

Experience or knowledge in the following would be particularly valuable:

  • Strategic partnership leadership within fintech, payment service providers, banking, payment networks, financial infrastructure, or embedded finance.
  • An established professional network across Philippine banks, financial institutions, payment providers, e-wallets, and technology platforms.
  • Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements involving revenue sharing, transaction pricing, volume commitments, or strategic distribution.
  • Experience developing partnerships that enable new financial products, payment capabilities, or merchant distribution channels.
  • Experience working with enterprise technology, SaaS, e-commerce, or platform ecosystems.
  • Exposure to technical integrations and implementation requirements for payment or financial infrastructure partnerships.
  • Experience improving the commercial economics of existing partnerships through renegotiation, pricing optimization, or expanded utilization.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial and operational needs of SMEs, digital businesses, and enterprise merchants.

The strongest candidates will demonstrate not only the ability to establish high-value relationships but also the commercial discipline and execution capability required to turn those relationships into sustainable business results.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means building a strategic partner ecosystem that contributes directly to PayMongo's profitability, growth, product capabilities, and competitive position.

  • Incremental Gross Profit generated or enabled through the partnership portfolio.

Your performance will also be evaluated through the following outcomes:

  • Partner Performance & Relationship Health: Maintaining productive, stable relationships that meet agreed commercial and operational objectives.
  • Team Health & Capability: Building a capable, engaged, and high-performing Partnerships organization.

Ultimately, success is not defined by how many partnerships are signed, but by the commercial value, strategic capabilities, and sustainable growth those partnerships create for PayMongo.

You Will Work Closely With:
