Head of Medical Operations - Vietnam

We are conducting a confidential search for a senior Head of Medical Operations to join a major healthcare organisation in Vietnam.

This is a significant hospital leadership position sitting at the intersection of clinical operations, patient flow, quality, capacity management and operational transformation.

The priority is very clear: we need someone who has actually operated hospitals.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have held substantial operational responsibility within acute/inpatient hospitals and understand the complexity of coordinating physicians, nursing teams, theatres, ICU, emergency departments and inpatient capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and continuously improve hospital medical and clinical operations
Drive bed management, ward capacity, admissions, transfers and discharge optimisation
Improve Emergency Department flow, escalation and movement of patients into inpatient services
Optimise operating theatre utilisation, scheduling, surgical capacity and associated clinical resources
Support effective management of ICU and critical-care capacity
Coordinate operational delivery across medical, nursing, allied health and hospital administration teams
Establish and monitor KPIs around patient flow, utilisation, throughput, quality and operational performance
Identify bottlenecks across the patient journey and lead practical improvement programmes
Strengthen clinical governance, patient safety, incident review and continuous quality improvement
Support development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols and operating standards
Work with hospital leadership on service-line development, Centres of Excellence and clinical programme expansion
Support accreditation and quality programmes, including JCI and other recognised healthcare standards
Drive operational transformation across complex hospital environments
Provide leadership and mentorship to medical operations teams and work closely with Hospital CMOs and senior nursing leadership

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced healthcare leader with:

Significant acute/inpatient hospital operating experience
Direct experience managing beds, wards and hospital capacity
Strong understanding of theatre, ICU and Emergency Department operations
Experience managing patient flow across complex hospital environments
Strong relationships with physicians, nursing leadership and multidisciplinary clinical teams
Experience in clinical quality, patient safety and governance
Strong operational improvement and transformation capability
Experience using hospital data and performance metrics to drive decisions
Experience within a large private hospital group, major public hospital or academic medical centre
Medical qualification would be highly advantageous, although exceptional hospital operations leaders with the right clinical-operational depth may also be considered
Experience in Vietnam or Southeast Asian healthcare would be advantageous

This isn't a corporate healthcare strategy position and it isn't primarily a primary-care role.

We're looking for someone who understands what happens inside a hospital every day - how patients move, where capacity becomes constrained, how clinical and nursing teams interact, how theatres and critical care are utilised, and how better operating models can improve both patient outcomes and hospital performance.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence medical operations across a substantial healthcare environment while working closely with senior clinical leadership.
