Role Overview

The Head of Innovation leads the company's technical innovation and product development agenda. This role translates market opportunities into differentiated, high performance solutions for the infrastructure and construction materials industry.

Key Responsibilities

Innovation Strategy and Roadmap

  • Develop and execute a structured innovation roadmap aligned with corporate strategy and category growth priorities.
  • Identify emerging technologies and technical opportunities relevant to infrastructure materials, particularly in tropical climate conditions.
  • Evaluate and prioritize initiatives based on commercial potential, feasibility, scalability, and economic value. Focus areas include thermoplastic road marking, cold mix and warm mix asphalt, road performance chemicals, durability enhancement, and advanced concrete additives.

Product Development

  • Lead the end to end development of new products and formulation improvements. Translate market challenges and customer pain points into practical technical solutions.
  • Oversee laboratory research, material testing, validation protocols, and prototype development.
  • Ensure products meet defined performance standards, durability targets, regulatory requirements, and cost objectives.

Field Validation and Application Testing

  • Direct field trials and real world testing to validate performance under jobsite conditions.
  • Work closely with application engineers, contractors, and customers to ensure solutions are practical, reliable, and easy to deploy.
  • Incorporate field feedback into continuous product refinement.

Commercial and Category Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Category Heads to understand market demands and growth priorities.
  • Support the development of commercially viable product strategies.
  • Contribute to defining product specifications, performance positioning, and solution architecture that creates competitive differentiation.

Manufacturing and Scale Up Integration

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure innovations are scalable, cost efficient, and operationally viable.
  • Lead the transfer of formulations and processes from laboratory to production while maintaining quality and performance integrity.

Technical Capability and Knowledge Leadership

  • Build and strengthen internal expertise in materials science for infrastructure applications in tropical environments.
  • Monitor global developments in asphalt technology, thermoplastic systems, and construction chemicals to ensure the company remains competitive and forward looking.

Innovation Portfolio Management

  • Establish and manage a structured pipeline of innovation projects across stages including concept development, feasibility validation, pilot testing, and commercialization.
  • Ensure disciplined resource allocation toward initiatives with the highest strategic and financial impact.

Required Competencies

  • Strong technical expertise in asphalt, polymers, construction chemicals, coatings, or materials engineering.
  • Demonstrated innovation leadership and structured project management capability.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical excellence and market value. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven cross-functional problem-solving and collaboration across commercial and manufacturing teams.

Ideal Background

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
  • Experience in construction materials, infrastructure technologies, asphalt, coatings, or specialty chemicals is strongly preferred.
  • Background in developing and commercializing technical products and exposure to manufacturing environments are highly desirable.
