About the job Head of Finance and Accounting
Job Summary
The Head of Finance and Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing Financial Reporting and Accounting, Treasury and Liquidity Management, Financial Planning and Performance, Regulatory Compliance, and Corporate Transactions. The position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with senior leadership to support financial stability, business growth, and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Finance and Accounting
- Lead and manage the Finance and Accounting team.
- Ensure accurate and timely management accounts, financial statements, and financial reports.
- Review significant transactions and advise on appropriate accounting treatment.
- Oversee provisioning, taxation, billing, accounts receivable, and related accounting activities.
- Coordinate external audits and address audit findings.
- Work closely with Operations on loan booking, reconciliations, and finance-related processes.
- Maintain effective financial controls, accounting policies, and management reporting systems.
- Continuously improve finance and accounting processes as the business grows.
Treasury and Financial Management
- Oversee treasury, liquidity, investments, funding, and asset-liability management.
- Monitor liquidity, funding costs, pricing, and balance sheet performance.
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, and funding partners.
- Serve as Secretariat to the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO).
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for ALCO, senior management, and the Board.
- Ensure compliance with applicable liquidity, capital, and regulatory requirements.
Financial Planning and Business Support
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial performance monitoring.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business decisions.
- Partner with Product, Operations, Risk, and Business teams in evaluating new products and opportunities.
- Provide guidance on pricing, financial viability, risks, and accounting considerations.
- Support initiatives involving foreign exchange, remittances, and financial partnerships.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Risk and Regulatory Compliance
- Participate in the Credit Committee and provide financial insights for lending decisions.
- Maintain appropriate financial risk management processes and controls.
- Ensure compliance with BSP requirements, accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
- Coordinate with regulators, auditors, banks, and other external stakeholders.
- Support regulatory examinations and ensure timely submission of required information.
Fundraising and Corporate Transactions
- Support the CEO in fundraising and investor relations activities.
- Prepare financial analyses, presentations, and responses to investor inquiries.
- Coordinate financial due diligence for investments, acquisitions, and other corporate opportunities.
- Work with internal teams and external advisers throughout corporate transactions.
Team Leadership and Governance
- Lead, coach, and develop the Finance and Accounting team.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with senior leadership and partner-facing teams on business priorities.
- Monitor key areas including liquidity, financial reporting, audits, taxation, and regulatory compliance.
Initial Priorities
The successful candidate will initially focus on:
- Strengthening treasury, liquidity, investment management, and ALCO processes.
- Improving financial reporting and management information.
- Reviewing and enhancing the provisioning approach.
- Strengthening financial controls and accounting processes.
- Supporting foreign exchange and remittance initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Significant experience in finance and accounting leadership, preferably within financial services, banking, lending, or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, treasury, liquidity management, budgeting, and financial controls.
- Experience working with regulatory requirements, auditors, banks, and other financial stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with senior management and provide sound financial and strategic advice.
- Strong understanding of accounting standards, taxation, and financial risk management.
- Experience in fundraising, investor relations, or corporate transactions is an advantage.
Other Responsibilities
- Recommend practical improvements to finance, accounting, treasury, and related operational processes.
- Support strategic initiatives and other business priorities as needed.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
