Job Description

Position Overview

As a senior technical leader, you will bridge the gap between complex ecosystem architecture and high-performing people leadership. In this role, you will extend your leadership across multiple engineering squads, internal staff, and vendor teams executing across diverse corporate delivery threads.

The matrix engineering model brings together central Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to help diverse business units accelerate product delivery, move confidently from problem discovery to rapid experimentation, and scale systems into highly secure, reliable enterprise services. You will steer teams toward clear problem definitions, measurable business outcomes, and evidence-based decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership & Architectural Vision

  • Unified Technical Strategy: Establish and champion a platform-wide architectural vision, technical standards, and rigorous expectations for security, scalability, and advanced DevOps/SRE practices across all squads.
  • System Modernization: Oversee technical design reviews and spearhead large-scale initiatives, such as major refactoring and platform migrations that deliver quantifiable improvements in system reliability and efficiency.
  • Sustainable Engineering: Balance innovative, forward-looking product initiatives with essential business-as-usual work, ensuring technical debt reduction and bug fixes align with long-term corporate stability.
  • AI-Augmented Delivery: Drive consistent standards and tooling for AI-assisted development across squads. Evolve delivery metrics to focus on design quality, architectural decision-making, and defect rates rather than pure code volume.

2. Strategic Alignment & Impact

  • Strategic Execution: Translate high-level corporate division goals into concrete, multi-year engineering roadmaps, a clear theory of success, and measurable OKRs.
  • Risk Mitigation: Anticipate and manage systemic risks, dependencies, and architectural friction across workstreams before they impact delivery timelines.
  • Ecosystem Thinking: Make strategic technical trade-offs visible to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring individual product choices align with broader organizational reuse, cost-effectiveness, and enterprise value.

3. People Management & Leadership Development

  • Manager of Managers: Directly manage, coach, and mentor Engineering Managers and Tech Leads, empowering them to lead autonomously and uphold elite delivery standards.
  • Talent Pipeline: Lead strategic recruitment initiatives, continuous performance benchmarking, and structured succession planning to strengthen the engineering leadership pipeline.
  • Team Evolution: Evaluate emerging skill gaps and continuously reshape organizational structures to maximize cross-squad mobility, agility, and clarity of ownership.

4. Cultural & Corporate Influence

  • High-Trust Culture: Cultivate an inclusive, transparent, and high-performing engineering culture modeled on empathy, accountability, and strong technical ownership.
  • Matrix Collaboration: Partner seamlessly with Product, Design, and senior cross-functional executives to navigate matrixed relationships and competing priorities.
  • Guild Standards: Align local squad architectures with global corporate engineering chapters and core guild standards, surfacing systemic learnings to help evolve practices across the wider enterprise.

What We Are Looking For

Experience & Technical Credibility

  • Proven Engineering Leadership: Extensive experience as a software engineering leader managing multiple squads, with a track record of operating as a manager of managers or leading through multiple tech leads.
  • Hands-on Foundation: Technically credible background with previous experience coding, designing, or operating complex production systems. Confident discussing architectural trade-offs and implementation details.
  • Full Product Lifecycle Expertise: Comfortable navigating problem framing, rapid prototyping, POC/POV loops, and scaling those experiments into highly secure, maintainable enterprise services.

Mindset & Competencies

  • Practical Product Mindset: Strong judgment on when to optimize for rapid deployment, when to simplify system complexity, and when to make long-term structural investments.
  • Systems Thinker: Ability to look beyond immediate deliverables to optimize overall organizational processes, team structures, and technology ecosystems.
  • Elite Communicator: Exceptional capability to explain technical risks, strategic trade-offs, and investment metrics to executive stakeholders, business owners, and engineers alike.
  • Secure by Design: Deeply ingrained commitment to embedding security, interoperability, and operational resilience into the engineering process early, rather than as an afterthought.
