JOB OVERVIEW:
The client is a critical member of the Development Team. The Grant Writer researches, writes, and manages proposals to secure funding from foundations, government agencies and corporations. They collaborate with staff to align organizational programs with funder priorities, draft compelling narratives, and maintain detailed submission calendars and grant reporting.
This role is responsible for the full grant lifecycle, from identifying prospective foundation partners to writing proposals and submitting compliance reports. The ideal candidate translates complex program goals into persuasive, outcome-driven narratives.
JOB ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Strategy
- Identify, research, and qualify new grant opportunities (foundation, corporate, and government).
- Maintain a comprehensive, master grants calendar to track deadlines, pending proposals, and reporting requirements.
- Analyze funder guidelines, giving histories, and organizational priorities to determine fit before applying.
2. Proposal Development & Writing
- Draft, edit, and submit persuasive Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), grant proposals, and renewal applications.
- Collaborate with Program Directors, Finance staff, and leadership to gather data, establish measurable outcomes, and build project budgets.
- Tailor narratives to meet specific funder requirements and word/character limits.
3. Grant Management & Reporting
- Manage post-award requirements, ensuring all grant deliverables are properly tracked and fulfilled.
- Prepare and submit timely interim and final reports to funders, detailing how funds were utilized and the impact achieved.
- Maintain organized digital files and update grant tracking software (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Bloomerang, Salesforce).
4. Funder Relations
- Support the Executives in building and maintaining relationships with current and prospective donors.
- Coordinate site visits and virtual meetings with grant officers and stakeholders.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience: 2–4 years of demonstrated success in grant writing and securing nonprofit funding (portfolio of awarded grants preferred).
- Writing Abilities: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to tell compelling stories with clarity and precision.
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple, competing deadlines without losing attention to detail.
- Data Literacy: Ability to understand program budgets, service statistics, and impact measurements.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and grant management/CRM databases.
