Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group Philippines is recruiting on behalf of pioneering Philippine manufacturer and global exporter of specialty abaca and non-wood pulps. Our client is seeking a General Manager who will be responsible for the overall performance of the business - operational, commercial, financial, and organizational. The role serves as the primary link between the SVP/Board and the management team, translating strategic direction into execution across all functions. The GM must provide stable, experienced leadership across all of these moving parts while driving sustainable profitability and growth.
This position is on a regular work schedule from Monday to Friday, onsite‑based in Albuera, Leyte with regular travel to Manila and key customer/supplier locations as required.
Key responsibilities:
Business Performance & Financial Management
- Own the company P&L; set annual production, revenue, and cost targets in alignment with the SVP/Board.
- Monitor and manage key financial metrics — gross margin per ton, cost of production, cash flow, and working capital with regular reporting to the SVP/Board.
- Responsible for manage budgets, accurate and timely financial reporting; oversee audit readiness and statutory compliance.
Commercial & Sales
- Guide the sales strategy for PSPI's specialty abaca pulp portfolio; oversee pricing, contract terms, and customer allocation decisions.
- Support and strengthen key export customer relationships; participate in strategic account reviews and customer visits as needed.
- Coordinate between Sales and Operations to align production scheduling, grade mix, and delivery commitments.
- Monitor market developments in the specialty pulp sector; identify opportunities to expand the customer base or product range.
Supply Chain & Fiber Procurement
- Ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply of abaca fiber through the Fiber Procurement team.
- Oversee fiber cost management and supplier relationships; manage exposure to price volatility and supply disruption risk.
- Align fiber procurement planning with production schedules and inventory targets.
People & Organization
- Lead, develop, and retain the senior management team across operations, commercial, finance, and support functions.
- Lead organizational recommendation on hiring, compensation structure, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, align with the organization's vision and values
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Philippine regulatory requirements: DENR (environmental), DOLE (labor), BOC (customs/export), and BSP (forex reporting).
- Maintain PSPI's export enterprise (EOE) status and associated incentives; manage obligations to relevant government bodies.
- Support the HR/Admin Manager in maintaining ESH standards and DOLE compliance across the plant.
- Oversee ISO quality system maintenance and any certification requirements.
Strategic Planning & Board Relations
- Lead the annual business planning cycle; set priorities and allocate resources across functions.
- Present regular operational and financial performance reports to the SVP/Board; provide clear, candid assessments of progress and risks.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for operational improvement, capacity expansion, or product development.
- Represent PSPI in external relationships with key customers, suppliers, government bodies, industry associations and the community.
Key requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management or a related field. (MBA or postgraduate management qualification is an advantage.)
- Minimum 10 years in manufacturing, agro-industrial, or export-oriented operations. With at least 5 years in a general management role with direct accountability for P&L and a multi-functional team.
- Background in pulp, paper, agro-processing, or specialty manufacturing is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing export customer relationships and international trade is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (ERPNext or equivalent) and management reporting tools.
- Understanding of Philippine regulatory environment: DENR, DOLE, BOC, BSP, EOE framework.
