Job Description

The Gadget Expert Officer provides technical expertise in the appraisal, valuation, and assessment of electronic gadgets and other pawnable items within the pawnshop industry. The role ensures accurate pricing, fraud prevention, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards while supporting business growth through identification of new collateral categories.

Key Responsibilities

Appraisal & Valuation

  • Inspect gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, gaming consoles, cameras, and smart devices
  • Verify IMEI/serial numbers and detect tampering, counterfeit, or stolen items
  • Assess functionality and determine fair market value based on company guidelines and market trends

Item Identification & Expansion

  • Maintain and update the approved list of pawnable gadgets (basing)
  • Research new electronic products and emerging devices for potential acceptance as collateral
  • Conduct market analysis before recommending new item categories
  • Fraud Prevention & Risk Management
  • Identify and report suspicious or high-risk items
  • Conduct risk assessments for newly introduced pawnable gadgets
  • Coordinate with management and legal teams for dispute resolution and compliance concerns
  • Technical Support & Training
  • Stay updated on gadget models, specifications, and resale values
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams when needed
  • Share expertise to improve appraisal consistency and accuracy

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • Technical certification or training in gadget repair/appraisal is an advantage
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in gadget appraisal, electronics retail, service centers, or pawnshop operations
  • Strong knowledge of electronic devices (phones, laptops, tablets, consoles, cameras, smartwatches, accessories)
  • Experience in market research or valuation is a plus
  • Ability to create and maintain item classification lists (basing)
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly observant
  • Strong integrity, accountability, and adaptability to fast-changing gadget trends
  • Good communication and training skills

WORK SETUP

Full-time, On-site

Based in Main Office with possible field/branch coordination if required
