Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Fund Accounting Lead to drive financial excellence across Private Equity funds. In this role, you will act as a strategic partner to Fund Controllers, providing them with institutional-grade data, transparency, and reporting. You will serve as the firms subject-matter expert on private equity fund accounting — personally owning our most complex fund structures and calculations, acting as the technical escalation point for the wider team, and ensuring data integrity, operational efficiency, and top-tier client service while actively identifying and implementing process improvements to optimize our accounting ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end calculation and production of Net Asset Value (NAV) for the firm's most complex and highest-risk fund structures. Oversee comprehensive cash, position, and Trial
- Balance reconciliations against fund administrators, custodians, prime brokers, and bank accounts to ensure efficient breaks resolution.
- Calculate and validate the allocation of income, expenses, gains, and losses across partner accounts, including non-standard economics driven by side letters and equalization. Review quarterly and annual Partner Statements to ensure accurate tracking of paid-in capital, unfunded commitments, and clawbacks.
- Act as the technical owner for the most complex Private Equity lifecycle events, including:
o Execution and calculation of capital calls, drawdowns, and distributions.
o Verification of complex waterfall models, distribution rules, preferred returns, and carried interest calculations.
o Pre- and post-closing transaction support for new portfolio investments.
o Multi-tier and multi-currency structures — SPVs, feeder and parallel funds, continuation vehicles, and fund-level credit facilities.
- Drive month-end close workflows and review quarter-end and year-end financial statements, ensuring all supporting schedules and trial balances are accurate and audit-ready. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external auditors and resolve complex audit inquiries directly.
- Critically evaluate existing accounting workflows, reporting cycles, and system integrations to uncover inefficiencies, manual bottlenecks, or operational risks.
- Develop scalable, automated, or streamlined standard operating procedures (SOPs) to address identified gaps and enhance delivery speed and data accuracy.
- Serve as subject-matter expert on the implementation of new accounting tools, technologies, and optimized workflows — defining requirements, running parallel testing, and documenting procedures so the team can adopt them smoothly and deliver seamlessly to clients.
- Drive leverage for our clients by deeply understanding their fund structures and strategic needs while scaling our fractional CFO and advisory operations.
- Enable data-driven decision-making for fund managers by leveraging advanced tools to deliver critical PE metrics, including real-time Internal Rate of Return (IRR), portfolio company valuation tracking, and key performance indicators (TVPI, RVPI, and DPI).
- Serve as the final quality control checkpoint for the most complex calculations and client deliverables, ensuring institutional-grade reporting accuracy and zero-defect output.
- Act as the escalation point and technical resource for other fund accountants, providing problem-solving frameworks that help them navigate complex private equity accounting scenarios and adapt to newly optimized processes.
- Monitor daily operational workflows, analyze performance variances against targets, and execute root-cause analysis to implement permanent process improvements.
- Contribute to technical interviews and deliver technical onboarding and continuous training for new team members.
Job Requirements and Credentials:
- 6+ years of experience in fund accounting or fund administration, with a strong focus on Private Equity or closed-end fund structures (experience with capital calls, waterfalls, and NAV reconciliations is required).
- Proven track record of successfully identifying accounting process gaps and implementing operational optimizations or financial technology solutions.
- 1-3 years of direct supervisory or team management experience, with track record of reviewing work of direct reports.
- Recognized depth in the hardest areas of private equity fund accounting — multi-tier waterfalls, carried interest and clawback mechanics, equalization, and multi-currency structures — with a track record of being the escalation point others rely on.
- Highly organized with impeccable attention to detail and a track record of meeting strict financial deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or progress toward a CPA/CFA/CAIA is a significant plus.
- Proactive, curious, and driven to dismantle inefficient legacy processes in favor of scalable, modern solutions.
- Genuinely passionate about delivering exceptional client service and supporting the growth of our partners.
- Excited by new challenges, highly responsive, and capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to articulate highly technical, complex financial and accounting concepts in a clear, concise manner.
