Introduction
The Functional Analyst acts as the bridge between business stakeholders and the BI/data engineering team, translating business needs into clear functional requirements and ensuring delivery of effective reporting solutions.
Roles and Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Analysis:
- Engage with business stakeholders to capture reporting needs
- Translate requirements into functional specifications and KPI definitions
- Identify opportunities for standardization
Functional Design & Documentation:
- Create functional design documents / blueprints
- Define business rules and report logic
- Ensure alignment with data governance standards
Collaboration with Technical Teams:
- Work with BI developers and data engineers
- Translate requirements into technical specifications
- Support development cycle
Testing & Validation:
- Define and execute UAT
- Validate KPIs and data consistency
- Coordinate business sign-off
- Deployment & Adoption:
- Support rollout of reports via Power BI apps
Train users:
- Drive adoption and feedback collection
- Governance & Data Quality
- Ensure adherence to standards
- Maintain KPI dictionary
- Identify data quality issues
Qualifications
Experience:
- 3–7 years as Functional/Business Analyst in BI projects
- Experience with Power BI or similar tools
Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of data modeling (fact/dimension)
- Basic SQL knowledge (reading queries, validating data)
- Familiarity with Azure/Databricks is a plus

- Excellent communication and translation skills (business ↔ technical)
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
