Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Load Broker/Freight Broker who can hit the ground running with an existing book of business and established customer relationships.
This role is ideal for a proven freight broker who knows how to generate freight, build strong shipper and carrier relationships, negotiate profitable rates, and manage shipments from booking through delivery.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and grow an existing book of customers and active accounts.
- Bring in new freight opportunities and consistently generate load volume.
- Build and maintain relationships with shippers, manufacturers, distributors, and other freight customers.
- Quote and negotiate rates with customers and carriers while protecting company margins.
- Source, qualify, and negotiate with reliable carriers.
- Match freight with the right carriers based on equipment, location, timing, and pricing.
- Manage loads from booking through successful delivery.
- Proactively communicate with customers and carriers regarding pickups, deliveries, delays, and changes.
- Track shipments and resolve issues quickly.
- Follow up with existing customers to identify additional shipping opportunities.
- Develop new customer relationships to expand the book of business.
- Maintain strong carrier relationships to ensure capacity and competitive pricing.
- Keep accurate customer, carrier, load, rate, and communication records in the TMS.
- Work closely with operations, accounting, and management to ensure smooth shipment execution.
What We're Looking For:
Non-negotiable:
- 3+ years of experience as a US Freight Broker, Load Broker, or Transportation Sales Professional.
- Existing book of customers/business is required.
- Established relationships with shippers and/or freight customers.
- Proven ability to consistently generate and book freight.
- Strong understanding of the transportation and logistics industry.
- Experience negotiating customer and carrier rates.
- Strong knowledge of FTL freight, lanes, equipment types, and carrier capacity.
- Strong sales, negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple loads and customer accounts independently.
- Experience with AscendTMS, McLeod, or similar TMS platforms.
- Established relationships with manufacturers, distributors, retailers, wholesalers, or other high-volume shippers.
- Strong existing carrier network.
- Experience managing a significant book of business.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue and gross margin goals.
