As a Fire Services Designer, you will perform at the professional and technical standards of an Australian-based designer. You will be responsible for producing high-precision design drawings and documentation that ensure life safety and regulatory compliance. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented engineer or drafter who excels in the BIM environment and wants to contribute to complex commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects within the Australian construction landscape.
Your Impact
- Technical Design Excellence: Produce comprehensive shop and design drawings in accordance with the National Construction Code (NCC) of Australia and relevant Australian Standards (AS 2419, AS 2118, AS 1670).
- BIM Modeling: Utilize Autodesk Revit to develop models up to LOD 500, ensuring high-fidelity digital representations for construction and final as-built documentation.
- Full Design Lifecycle: Participate from initial read-in and briefing to preparing client RFIs, bills of materials, and technical clarifications. Conduct final design reviews with the Design Manager to ensure all deliverables are construction-ready.
- Fabrication & Coordination: Prepare pipe fabrication sheets and coordinate with other subcontractors to resolve spatial clashes and technical discrepancies. Manage design submissions via Autodesk Cloud or Procore systems.
- Value Engineering: Assist the project team with efficiency during construction by presenting alternative design solutions and value engineering options where appropriate.
- Safety & Quality Advocacy: Adhere to strict OHS and Environmental policies, ensuring that every design not only meets technical specifications but also prioritizes the safety of the end-users and the environment.
What You Bring
- The Experience:At least 5 years of experience in the fire services industry. You have a proven track record of applying Australian Standards in live project environments.
- Technical Mastery: Expert knowledge of Autodesk Revit and the Autodesk Suite. You are proficient in designing fire sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, smoke detectors, and EWIS systems.
- The Credentials: Tertiary Engineering qualification or a relevant trade certificate.
- The Mindset: A proactive problem-solver with a high level of computer literacy. You are capable of managing workloads to meet strict deadlines and have a high-pressure Australian environment mindset.
- Communication Prowess: Excellent English communication skills. You can effectively liaise with Project Managers, Team Leads, and external stakeholders to ensure design intent is clearly understood and executed.
- Desirable Tools: Experience with Hydraulic Calculation Software, Aconex, or Procore is highly regarded.
