Role Overview
This is a hands-on analytical role centered on reviewing loan applications, assessing borrower risk and creditworthiness, and supporting the structuring of high-value financing transactions.
You will work closely with our Canada-based client, owning underwriting analysis, documentation review, and risk assessment to keep loan processing efficient and credit decisions sound. The work is well suited to a strong financial generalist; experience with insurance-backed lending is a plus, not a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and underwrite loan applications, financing requests, and credit files
- Assess borrower risk, creditworthiness, and financial strength using financial statements, tax documents, and credit data
- Prepare credit summaries, underwriting memos, and clear loan recommendations
- Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with lending policies
- Support the structuring of loan terms, pricing, and risk-mitigation strategies
- Evaluate collateral as part of the credit file, including insurance-based assets where applicable (e.g., policy value and premium structures)
- Coordinate with Canada-based advisors, brokers, and internal teams
- Help ensure compliance with applicable Canadian lending standards and regulations
- Maintain organized records and support tracking of the loan pipeline and approvals
- Assist with portfolio monitoring and flag potential risk exposure
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in financial underwriting, credit analysis, or loan processing
- Strong ability to analyze financial statements, credit profiles, and lending structures
- High financial literacy and sound, well-reasoned credit judgment
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, analytical approach
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Availability for meaningful daily overlap with Toronto business hours (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Eastern Time)
Nice to Have
- Experience in mortgage underwriting, private lending, or asset-based lending
- Exposure to insurance-based lending or structured finance
- Familiarity with high-net-worth clients or complex financing structures
- Experience working with North American or international clients
- CPA, CFA, or a relevant professional certification
