The Finance Controller is responsible in overseeing all financial, accounting, and cash-flow management activities for roofing and construction projects. This role ensures operational efficiency, accurate profitability tracking, and comprehensive reporting, including Work-In-Progress (WIP), job costing, and revenue recognition.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage all accounting operations including billing, cost accounting, inventory management, AR, AP, and revenue recognition.
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements for ownership review.
• Develop, maintain, and analyze Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting, local tax compliance, and corporate tax returns with external CPAs.
• Reconcile financial data between AccuLynx (estimates, material orders, job costs) and QuickBooks (ledger, accounts, payroll).
• Audit completed jobs in AccuLynx to ensure true gross profit margins align with QuickBooks general ledger entries.
• Monitor cash flow, manage collections, and oversee payroll processing for office staff and subcontractor payouts.
• Manage lien waivers, certificate of insurance (COI) tracking, and retainage requirements for commercial accounts.
• Analyze financial data to advise ownership on cost-reduction, pricing strategies, and cash flow forecasting.
• Establish, monitor, and enforce robust internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
• Assist in budget preparation and variance analysis to track company performance against growth targets.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of construction or project accounting experience with exposure to Percentage-of-Completion (POC) revenue recognition, Work-In-Progress (WIP) reporting, job cost accounting, project profitability analysis, progress billing and subcontractor payouts, and retainage, lien waivers, and COI tracking.
• Experience in QuickBooks (general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, job costing, reporting).
• Proficient in QuickBooks including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, job costing, financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Demonstrates analytical and reporting skills.
• Demonstrates attention to detail, ability to identify trends and create inferences.
• Shows ability to establish interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skill.
• Shows ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Clear and coherent both written and verbal communication skills in English.
