The Financial Controller ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of PayMongo's financial records and consolidated reporting. This role strengthens the company's financial governance as PayMongo scales, particularly across high-volume payments operations, settlement flows, merchant transactions, and multi-entity structures.
The position exists to embed strong financial discipline, safeguard PayMongo's assets, and ensure full compliance with BIR, SEC, and BSP requirements. The Controller leads a lean, agile, and technology-savvy accounting team and provides senior leadership with reliable, audit-ready financial information necessary for strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of PayMongo's general accounting functions. Oversee daily accounting activities and ensure accurate, timely recording of transactions. Validate supporting documents and approvals to ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal controls. Review GL entries, reconcile vendor and merchant balances and ensure correct cut-off and classification of expenses and revenues. Monitor transactional cycles unique to fintech operations.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close and consolidation process. Develop a disciplined close calendar and drive cross-functional adherence. Review journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and intercompany eliminations. Prepare and consolidate the Group's financial statements in compliance with IFRS. Ensure variance explanations between actuals and forecasts are complete and supported.
- Oversee and manage financial reports related to AR/AP, settlement and payout reconciliations, accruals and deferrals. Review merchant receivable aging, payout reconciliation reports, partner fee statements, and settlement cycles. Validate accuracy of accruals and deferred revenue/expenses, ensuring they reflect transaction volume and contractual agreements. Investigate discrepancies and lead resolution efforts with Operations, Treasury, and Product.
- Produce the quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements. Consolidate financials, prepare eliminations, and ensure proper application of IFRS. Draft notes to financial statements and prepare supporting schedules for audits and regulatory filings. Maintain documentation to support all financial disclosures.
- Proactively manage annual audits and regulatory compliance. Coordinate with external auditors, prepare audit schedules, and respond to audit queries. Ensure timely filing of tax returns, statutory reports, and BSP-required submissions. Maintain documentation supporting compliance and regulatory inspections. Implement corrective actions for audit findings.
- Implement best-practice internal controls and financial governance across the organization. Design, update and enforce accounting policies, process workflows, and approval matrices. Identify control gaps, especially across high-volume fintech transaction flows.Partner with Product and Engineering to assess financial impact and control requirements for new features or systems.
- Build an lead a high-performing team of Finance Associates. Hire, coach, mentor and manage performance of team members. Establish clear expectations, delegation structures and development plans. Promote a culture of accuracy, ownership, urgency and continuous improvement. Build fintech-specific accounting and reconciliation expertise
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge in financial reporting and IFRS, ability to produce compliant consolidated statements and disclosures
- Strong command of AR/AP cycles, O2C/P2P reconciliations and GL control
- Ability to design, implement and monitor control frameworks
- Working expertise in BIR requirements, SEC filings, BSP compliance.
- Background in Fintech/payments operational flows is an advantage - understanding settlement cycles, merchant balances, partner fees, etc.
