About the Private Infrastructure Development Group

The Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) is an innovative infrastructure project developer and investor which mobilises private investment in sustainable and inclusive infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa and south and southeast Asia. PIDG investments promote socio-economic development within a just transition to net zero emissions, combat poverty and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). PIDG delivers its ambition in line with its values of pioneering, partnership, safety, inclusivity, and urgency.

PIDG offers technical assistance for upstream, early-stage activities and concessional capital invests in early-stage project development and project and corporate equity through its project development solution, InfraCo its debt solution EAAIF (the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund) is one of the first and more successful blended debt funds in low-income markets and its guarantees solution, GuarantCo, provides credit enhancement and local currency solutions to de-risk projects. PIDG also supports a growing portfolio of local credit enhancement facilities, which unlock domestic institutional capital for infrastructure financing.

Since 2002, PIDG has supported 258 infrastructure projects to financial close, which provided an estimated 232 million people with access to new or improved infrastructure. The Analyst will report into an Associate Director in the Investment team and will support origination, execution and portfolio management as part of the Investment team. As part of the Investment team, the Analyst will:

.support the origination and execution of transactions and will support other team members globally in steering deals from identification to financial close.

.support transactions after deal closure and will be responsible for supporting with monitoring thereafter.

Role and responsibilities

.Assisting Directors and Associate Directors originating opportunities in their various regions and assisting with the preparation of early-stage New Business Committee (NBC) approvals.

.As a member of deal teams Analysts will work through the early-stage due diligence of transactions following NBC approval. The Analyst will work collaboratively with Directors, Associate Directors and deal teams to ensure a transaction is appropriately structured and presented to Credit Committee for approval.

.Assist deal team members in conducting due diligence for new deals, including:

oCredit analysis,

oFinancial modelling - including review, stress-testing and carrying out of scenario analysis,

oStructuring, and

oReview of commercial and legal documentation.

.Support the Deal teams in the drafting and presentation of new business proposals and in the preparation of final credit proposals to the GuarantCo Credit Committee, including liaising with the relevant internal stakeholders on Credit Committee logistics and admin tasks.

.Assist in executing due diligence tasks and reviews including supporting senior members of the team in appointing and liaising with independent advisors.

.Support senior members of the team in reviewing project documentation to ensure that GuarantCo's position is appropriately protected.

.Lead on the coordination with various internal teams on client on-boarding and various other related administrative tasks, including Know Your Customers (KYC) analysis.

.Lead on the coordination with the Impact and Health, Safety, Environment and Social (HSES) teams, including participating in putting together the Impact rationale and HSES risk mitigation for transactions.

.Lead on or support on delivering any other ad-hoc tasks and research required to help develop the Investment team or work in partnership with other departments.

.Develop and demonstrate a strong grasp of their deal portfolio.

.Proactively monitor their transactions post financial close to increase visibility of future risks. Monitor and escalate when needed Impact matters.

.Monitor/report/operationally track the performance of transactions post financial close against various covenants, including financial performance and environmental and social objectives.

.Assist in developing and managing all transaction relationships (borrower, sponsors, guarantee beneficiary, banks, agents, etc.).

.Assist with writing and presenting reports and requests to Portfolio Committee. Contribute to the analysis and arguments being presented, recommendations and rationale.

.Work and liaise with the Credit team in support of requests to Portfolio Committee.

.Ensure transaction settings in the internal systems are set up and updated on a timely basis, taking ownership for their accuracy at all times and engaging with the Finance Department and the Loans Admin Officer as required.

.Contribute ideas and opinions on transaction-specific matters.

.Identify, drive and take ownership of opportunities to improve work practices and increase productivity across the investment process from origination to execution, close, monitoring and exit.

.Seek opportunities to take on higher levels of responsibility and ownership of the various aspects of portfolio management of assigned transactions as required including any transactions that may have transitioned into Restructuring.

.Contribute to ensuring lessons learned are identified, implemented and shared across the business.

.Assist the finance team when required to follow up on payment collection, including in the case of persistent unpaid amounts with the management of clients.

.Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and education requirements

.Relevant professional qualifications.

.Strong academics.

.Knowledge of another language in the relevant market (Africa, Middle East or Asia) would be advantageous.

Experience

.Familiarity with issues relating to corporate and project finance in Emerging and Frontier Markets (ideally Africa, Middle East & Asia).

.Understanding of structured / project finance transactions.

.Credit risk assessment experience.

.Experience in financial accounting and financial statement analysis.

.Ability to demonstrate understanding of lending and fixed income products.

.Strong Microsoft Office skills (ideally Microsoft Excel financial modelling skills).

.Familiarity with guarantees and similar products from Export Credit Agencies, multilateral and bilateral development institutions, monoline insurers etc.

.Experience in delivering a client focused service.
