Job Description

Job Description

Position Summary

A fast-growing, client-centric law firm is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Planning & Compliance Officer to directly support the CFO in driving financial strategy, management reporting, and regulatory oversight. This key individual contributor will transform raw financial and operational data into actionable business insights, manage budgeting and forecasting frameworks, and oversee the firm's financial compliance obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Budgeting & Planning: Assist the CFO in building the annual budget by developing templates, models, and assumptions. Review and validate departmental budget inputs and track core cost drivers, including payroll, headcount, and operating expenses.

  • Forecasting: Build and update monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasts. Evaluate historical data to enhance forecast accuracy and proactively identify financial risks and growth opportunities for leadership.

  • Management Reporting: Draft monthly reporting packages (budget/forecast vs. actuals), conduct variance analyses to pinpoint performance drivers, and update key financial and operational KPI dashboards.

  • Financial Analysis: Execute ad-hoc financial evaluations for the CFO, including cost-benefit studies, trend tracking, scenario modeling, and headcount/compensation analyses.

  • Compliance Management: Maintain a master compliance calendar tracking statutory, regulatory, tax, licensing, and insurance deadlines. Gather required documentation alongside internal teams and external providers, escalating risks to the CFO when necessary.

  • Process Improvement: Modernize and automate financial reporting, management dashboards, and compliance workflows to boost operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.

  • Proven background in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, or accounting.

  • Solid grasp of core financial statements and managerial accounting principles.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets with strong financial modeling capabilities.

Preferred:

  • Professional credentials such as CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification.

  • Direct experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or management accounting.

  • Background working within a legal or professional services environment.

  • Hands-on experience managing tax, statutory, or corporate compliance timelines.
