Job Description
Role: Finance ManagerKey accountabilitiesMonth-end close and book closure
- Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close calendar for the Australian and Philippine entities and close the books accurately and to deadline.
- Review and approve journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions, depreciation, payroll postings and intercompany entries.
- Reconcile every balance sheet monthly, with ageing, named ownership and a resolution plan for each open item.
- Maintain and enforce the close checklist, escalate blockers early, and drive days-to-close down rather than accepting the current position.
- Ensure accounting treatment is consistent, correctly applied and documented in line with the applicable standards and group policy.
- Produce entity-level profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements with supporting schedules and written commentary.
- Prepare the consolidation inputs for the Australian and Philippine entities, including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation.
- Maintain the chart of accounts, reporting hierarchy and accounting policy application consistently across the entities in scope.
- Contribute to board, leadership and investor reporting to a consistently high standard of accuracy and presentation.
- Keep reporting audit-ready at all times, with a traceable trail from source data to reported results.
- Own corporate income tax, VAT and percentage tax, withholding taxes, and all related returns, filings and attachments.
- Own statutory registrations and filings — Securities and Exchange Commission, Bureau of Internal Revenue, local government units, and the social agencies.
- Own payroll-related statutory obligations, including SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG contributions and remittances.
- Maintain a Philippine compliance calendar with named ownership, due dates and evidence of completion.
- Manage assessments, notices, audits and correspondence with the revenue and regulatory authorities, engaging external advisors where required.
- Maintain books of account and support documentation to the standard required on examination.
- Prepare the tax computations, reconciliations, working papers and audit file for the Australian entities, to the standard and timetable set by the Senior Manager Finance in Sydney.
- Prepare the supporting data for Australian indirect tax and payroll-related filings, for review and lodgment in Sydney.
- Maintain the Australian balance sheet reconciliations and resolve open items rather than carrying them forward.
- Support the Australian statutory audit by assembling the file, answering queries and clearing adjustments.
- Escalate anything that could affect an Australian statutory or lodgment deadline immediately, not at the next reporting cycle.
- Own the revenue assurance framework end to end — that revenue earned is captured, billed, collected and correctly recognized.
- Reconcile revenue between the operational and source systems, partner and retailer statements, and the general ledger.
- Identify, quantify and resolve revenue leakage, under-billing, pricing errors, commission discrepancies and unbilled revenue.
- Validate commission, rebate, claw back and partner settlement calculations against the contracted commercial terms.
- Build controls and exception reporting that detect revenue issues as they arise rather than at year end.
- Own accounts payable end to end: vendor onboarding, invoice processing, matching, approvals within the delegation of authority, and payment runs.
- Own accounts receivable end to end: invoicing, collections, cash application, ageing, provisioning and dispute resolution, and drive days sales outstanding down.
- Control vendor master data and changes to bank details and payment instructions, with segregation of duties and fraud prevention across every disbursement channel.
- Own cash flow forecasting for the entities in scope, manage banking relationships, mandates and authorization matrices, and monitor foreign exchange exposure against group policy.
- Manage intercompany funding and remittance between the entities in scope.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the Philippine statutory auditors and support the Australian audit through the Sydney role.
- Own the internal control environment for the entities in scope: design, testing, documentation and remediation of control gaps.
- Maintain the risk and controls matrix, delegation of authority and segregation of duties framework, and keep them current as the business changes.
- Track audit findings and management actions to closure, with no repeat findings year on year.
- Prepare the entities in scope for the higher governance and reporting standard the group is moving toward, including the documentation an external reviewer or acquirer would expect.
- Own the annual operating plan and periodic reforecasts for the entities in scope: build the cost base bottom-up, challenge assumptions with budget owners, and hold them to what was agreed.
- Build and maintain driver-based models that connect operational drivers — volumes, headcount, site costs, vendor rates, foreign exchange — to financial outcomes.
- Deliver budget-versus-actual and forecast-versus-actual analysis at entity and cost-centre level, with root-cause commentary rather than a description of numerical movement.
- Run scenario analysis on decisions affecting the entities in scope, including headcount plans, site and vendor decisions, and currency exposure.
- Support the analysis of unit economics for the operations run out of Manila — cost to serve, cost per sale, and contribution by channel — and identify where cost lines can be improved.
- Work with the group FP&A function so that the plan, the forecast and the statutory result reconcile and use the same definitions, rather than telling three different stories.
- Build and maintain the management reporting and dashboards for the entities in scope, so that leadership can see performance without requesting it.
- Reconcile operational and source system data to the general ledger and establish a single source of truth where today there are several.
- Interrogate source data directly rather than relying on someone else to produce an extract and validate what the data supports before it is reported.
- Own data definitions for the financial and operational metrics used in reporting and keep them consistent across the entities in scope.
- Drive automation of recurring reporting and reconciliation, reducing manual effort, cycle time and error risk.
- Partner with the data and engineering teams on the integrations and data quality that finance reporting depends on.
- Own the finance systems and integrations for the entities in scope and lead process improvement and any system migration affecting them.
- Document and maintain finance policies, process notes and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with the business and operations teams in Manila and Sydney to hold cost lines accountable and translate financial outcomes into terms a non-finance audience can act on.
- Build, lead and develop the Manila finance team from a standing start: clear standards, accountability, quality benchmarks and development plans.
Selection criteria
Essential
• Certified Public Accountant (Philippines) or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• Six to nine years post-qualification experience, with at least two years in controllership, financial controller or finance manager role owning the full-cycle close.
• Proven ownership of month-end close across more than one legal entity, including intercompany and foreign currency translation.
• Has owned statutory and tax compliance for at least one jurisdiction end to end — returns prepared, filed on time, and defended on examination.
• Has been the primary point of contact for statutory auditors and has managed an audit from planning through to signed accounts.
• Hands-on operational ownership of accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management, including the controls around payments and vendor bank details.
• Experience reconciling revenue between operational or billing systems and the general ledger and resolving the differences.
• Has built or materially strengthened an internal control environment — not only operated one someone else designed.
• Experience leading a finance team, including responsibility for the quality of other people's work.
• Has owned a budget or reforecast cycle end to end — built the numbers, challenged the assumptions with budget owners, and been held to the result.
• Financial modelling capability: able to build and maintain a driver-based model rather than only maintain someone else's spreadsheet.
• Strong ERP and accounting systems capability, advanced Excel, and genuine comfort working with large data sets.
• Working capability with a business intelligence or reporting tool such as Power BI, Tableau or equivalent — able to build a view, not only read one.
• Excellent written and spoken English, including the ability to write commentary and audit responses that will be read in Australia.
• Core overlap with Australian business hours, including at month-end close.
• Willingness to work hands-on in a function that is still being built, rather than inheriting a mature one.
• Comfortable preparing and owning work that is reviewed and signed off by a manager in another country and time zone.
6.2 Desirable
• Experience supporting or reporting into an Australian, United Kingdom, United States or Singaporean parent entity.
• Familiarity with Australian accounting, indirect tax or corporate filing requirements — helpful but not expected on appointment.
• Experience in a shared service centre, global capability centre or the Philippine subsidiary of a foreign group, with real ownership rather than process execution.
• Experience in a business with partner commissions, affiliate settlements, claw backs or high transaction volumes.
• Experience of audit-readiness, due diligence or transaction process, or of preparing a group for a higher governance standard.
• Experience of a Bureau of Internal Revenue examination or a comparable revenue authority audit.
• Big Four or mid-tier audit background before moving in-house.
• Experience implementing or migrating a cloud ERP or automating a finance process end to end.
• SQL or an equivalent ability to query source data directly without relying on an extract from someone else.
• Experience owning management reporting or dashboards for a leadership audience.
• Experience of unit economics analysis in a subscription, marketplace, lead generation or high-volume consumer business.
• Exposure to PEZA or other incentive regimes.
