Job Summary:
The Fashion Designer is responsible for shaping and translating the brand's vision into compelling, customer-centric product narratives aligned with the brand's value proposition and business objectives. This role blends target-customer insight, holistic problem-solving, and trend research to create designs that deliver functional, monetary, and psychological valuenot just surface-level aesthetics. Strong organizational and collaborative skills are required to ensure the brand remains relevant, innovative, and consistent across all touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Trend and Cultural Research
- Conduct ongoing research on global/local cultural movements, and provide brand-relevant insights that can be translated into designs
- Produce brand-owned research, mood boards, seasonal themes, and color palettes that directly inform collection development.
2. Design Development
- Translate mood boards into sketches (hand-drawn or digital), developing concepts into ready-to-present design proposals
- Refine and reinterpret previous designs with subtle updates to align with merchandising and production goals, seasonal stories, and market demands
- Assist the Design and Development Manager in approving lab dips for dye-to-match fabrics to ensure color accuracy
3. Tech Pack Development and Send Out
- Convert creative sketches into accurate technical flats that capture design intent and technical details
- Prepare all Tech Packs with complete and accurate information, construction details, materials, trims, sundries, and hangtag specifications ready for send out to all vendors
- Send out all Tech Packs, which have been discussed with vendor, following the Production Calendar Deadlines
- Review the Tech Packs to ensure that all comments from the fit session have been accurately logged
- Update the Tech Packs with the Q Sample Inspection Report
4. Pattern, Sampling, and Fit Collaboration
- Work with vendors and patternmakers to refine the product so it maintains design intention, and can be produced efficiently at scale with consistent quality
- Capture and communicate all fit and construction updates in the tech pack and ensure vendors receive complete post-fit documentationincluding updated flats within 2 working days
5. Construction, Quality, Measurement Spec and Care Label Approvals
- Approve stitching, finishing, and trim applications, ensuring all technical aspects meet brand quality and longevity standards and manufacturability
- Approve sample and graded measurement specifications and acceptable tolerance for each approved style
- Approve the care labels to be attached for each garment, ensuring that the complete and accurate fabric and care instructions per style
- Coordinate Q sample approval with QC, providing comments on commercially acceptable tolerance on a case-to-case basis
6. Approval Checklist
- Ensure that each style has been checked against the Production and Merchandising Checklists before approval
7. Material and Trim Sourcing and Filing
- Propose fabric, yarn, and trim directions with a balance of working staples and new innovations to push creative boundaries while ensuring commercial viability
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive master file for materials and trims, while also organizing and archiving physical fabric swatches and trim samples for reference and sourcing purposes
8. Training Materials
- Develop initial training deck focused on product features, to be reviewed and enhanced by the Merchandising team to be in line with the Principles of Selling
