Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Export Manager to establish and lead our export operations in Papua New Guinea. This is a foundational role, designed to build the business from the ground up, with a focus on developing trade channels for key commodities such as seafood, coffee, and other agricultural products. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's export strategy, building supplier and buyer networks, and ensuring compliance with international trade standards.
Key Responsibilities
Business Foundation & Strategy
- Establish and manage the export division in Papua New Guinea, operating with a startup mindset to build systems, processes, and teams from scratch.
- Develop and implement export strategies that align with the company's growth objectives in Asia and global markets.
Trade & Export Operations
- Identify, negotiate, and manage relationships with local suppliers of seafood, coffee, and other exportable goods.
- Build strong connections with international buyers, distributors, and trading partners.
- Oversee logistics, warehousing, and shipping operations to ensure timely and costeffective delivery.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all exports comply with local and international trade regulations, certifications, and quality standards.
- Monitor market trends, currency fluctuations, and trade risks to develop proactive mitigation strategies.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Develop pricing models, negotiate contracts, and manage budgets to optimize profitability.
- Track and report on export performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Recruit, train, and lead a small local team to support export operations.
- Collaborate with crossborder stakeholders in Hong Kong and the Philippines to align strategies and share best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in export management, trade, or supply chain, preferably in seafood, coffee, or agricultural commodities.
- Proven ability to establish new business operations or divisions, ideally in emerging markets.
- Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, logistics, and customs processes.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a startup environment.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of regional languages is an advantage.
