Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage housekeeping staff, including housekeepers, floor supervisors, laundry staff, and other support personnel.
- Develop, train, and motivate the housekeeping team to maintain high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.
- Conduct performance evaluations and offer constructive feedback for staff development.
Cleaning Standards & Procedures
- Ensure that all rooms, suites, and public areas meet or exceed luxury cleanliness standards.
- Develop and implement cleaning procedures that maintain the highest quality in both guest rooms and back-of-house areas.
- Perform regular inspections of rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas to ensure cleanliness and quality are maintained.
- Ensure that guest requests and special cleaning needs (e.g., requests for additional amenities, pillow types, etc.) are fulfilled promptly.
Inventory & Supplies Management
- Oversee the procurement and management of cleaning supplies, linens, and equipment.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of housekeeping supplies, linens, and guest amenities.
- Ensure that the department is adequately stocked with necessary supplies and that waste is minimized.
Budget & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage the housekeeping department's budget, ensuring that spending stays within budgetary limits while maintaining quality service.
- Control costs related to labor, supplies, and cleaning products.
- Optimize department processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Guest Satisfaction & Quality Assurance
- Ensure high levels of guest satisfaction by meeting or exceeding the hotel's cleanliness standards.
- Handle guest complaints or concerns related to housekeeping services and resolve issues in a professional manner.
- Respond to special guest requests with attention to detail and personalize services where appropriate.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure that housekeeping staff adheres to health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Maintain compliance with all hotel policies, procedures, and local regulations.
- Oversee the maintenance of housekeeping equipment and ensure that it is safe for use.
Administrative Duties
- Prepare departmental reports (e.g., occupancy, maintenance issues, guest complaints).
- Schedule and supervise shifts, ensuring optimal staffing levels.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Front Desk, Maintenance, Laundry) to address issues affecting guests and hotel operations.
Sustainability Initiatives
- Implement eco-friendly cleaning practices and promote sustainability within housekeeping operations.
- Ensure that the hotel follows green practices for waste management, energy use, and other environmental concerns.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related field.
- Housekeeping or hospitality-related certifications (e.g., cleaning standards, safety, or supervisory training) are an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive housekeeping experience, preferably in a luxury or large-scale hotel/resort.
- At least 1–2 years in a supervisory or assistant managerial role within housekeeping.
- Experience in managing teams, room inspections, inventory, and budget control.
Preferred Skills
- Technical Skills: Proficient in housekeeping management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other related tools.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate, guide, and develop staff.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with staff, guests, and other departments.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address and resolve issues efficiently, ensuring a seamless guest experience.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours on your feet, lift heavy items, and manage a physically demanding workload.
- Pre-opening experience in a hotel, integrated resort, or hospitality property is an advantage.
