Environment Specialist
The Environment Specialist leads the development, implementation, and operational integration of environmental protection programs across heavy industrial facilities. Working directly alongside operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, this role bridges regulatory compliance and daily production workflows to minimize environmental impact while optimizing facility reliability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Integration & Compliance: Partner directly with plant operations to embed environmental standards, abatement protocols, and compliance checkpoints into standard operating procedures (SOPs) and daily production activities.
- Pollution Control Leadership: Serve as the designated Pollution Control Officer (PCO), managing continuous emission abatement, high-volume industrial wastewater, and waste management across heavy technical processes.
- Engineering & Project Consultation: Provide environmental risk assessments and input during the planning and execution phases of capital projects, plant expansions, and heavy equipment overhauls.
- Systems Reliability & Maintenance: Coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure high uptime, accurate calibration, and reliable performance of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), effluent treatment facilities, and control equipment.
- Reporting & Data Analytics: Compile required regulatory filings and translate complex environmental telemetry into actionable operational insights for executive leadership and plant management.
- Hazardous Materials & Waste Governance: Serve as designated Waste Manager—directing high-risk waste handling, disposal, containment strategies, and operational budget allocation in full compliance with regulatory standards.
- Stakeholder & Regulatory Relations: Represent the organization with regulatory bodies, local government units (LGUs), and community partners to protect the company's operational license and community standing.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering.
- Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer with accredited Pollution Control Officer (PCO) certification.
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of environmental engineering/compliance experience directly within a heavy industrial environment (e.g., heavy manufacturing, chemical processing, power generation, mining, cement, or oil & gas).
- Operational Integration Track Record: Demonstrated ability to work on the shop floor, partnering cross-functionally with process engineering and plant maintenance to integrate compliance into daily operations.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in operating and troubleshooting Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), automated industrial wastewater treatment equipment, and enterprise EH&S management software.
