The Venture

Volt General is a behind-the-meter battery solution that allows retail electricity suppliers (RESs) to optimize their procurement costs through per-customer load-shifting.

About the Role

To be able to disrupt the traditional but high-opportunity energy sector, we need visionaries who are passionate about reimagining old ways of working and using innovative technologies to solve pain points on both the demand and supply sides of the market.

As the Co-Founder/CTO, you are the ultimate authority on the physical and digital integrity of our energy assets. Your job is to select, integrate, and govern the hardware that serves as our venture's muscle. You are responsible for ensuring that our physical hedge is safe, efficient, and outlives its payback period.

Key Responsibilities

• Hardware Strategy & Procurement: Lead the technical vetting of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) OEMs; define the cell chemistry (LFP vs. NMC vs. Sodium-ion) and enclosure specs required for specific industrial climates
• BMS & Logic Governance: Oversee the Battery Management System (BMS) configuration; ensure safety parameters for voltage, current, and temperature are being met
• Degradation & Thermal Modeling: Build high-fidelity models to predict cell aging based on specific duty cycles; optimize usage to maximize the State of Health (SoH) over a 10-15 year horizon
• Safety & Compliance: Own the fire suppression (FSS) strategy and ensure all deployments meet all relevant electrical codes and standards

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or Electrochemical Engineering
• Hardware and Software Fluency: Deep understanding of hardware sizing and strategies, as well as proficiency in modeling
